President’s Report
Thank you Doug for chairing a vibrant meeting.
We noticed that not everyone is receiving (or opening) the club bulletin and Rotary email. It is an important communication tool. Please check your spam folder or contact Bruce or Adrian for advice if needed.

The Eaglehawk Club facilitates a fundraising walk via the O’Keefe trail for the Stroke Association of Victoria to be held on Friday 11 October. The DG will walk the full 20km, but you opt for shorted distances. See details towards the end of the bulletin. Hope you can join the DG in supporting the cause and start training :)
A Karen Wrist Tying Ceremony will be held in the Strathdale Hall this Saturday, 24th August, from 10am to 2pm.

Guest Speaker
Our Guest Speaker, this week was Chris Lacey from RecLink Australia. Chris originates from Warrnambool and started as a youth worker. After several leading positions in other organisation he leads RecLink for the last five years. RecLink provides opportunities for people of all ages and ability, who otherwise would not have a chance to participate in sport, to engage in various sporting activities. Although the Football League is very popular, RecLink is also offering opportunities in cricket and other sports, and also singing and dancing. It is about getting people together and having fun. There are many benefits of the program, including physical, mental and social benefits through friendship and building a sense of community amongst those who participate.  It has been estimated that the return is almost nine dollars for every dollar invested. RecLink works in partnership with approximately 200 community organisations in Victoria and also offers organisations to become a member for $130 per year. The RecLink model is a hub and spoke model with important stakeholders such as local government, community health centres, mental health, drug and alcohol agencies, housing, football clubs and Rotary as the spokes. RecLink also receives funding through the Victorian Responsible Gambling Foundation. The program is growing and sports such as football now take place in different zones so that participants do not have to travel long distances. The grand finals will take place on 3 to 5 September 2019 from 10:30 am to 3 pm at Peanut Farm Reserve, St Kilda. More information can be found at https://www.reclink.org/.

Why

Will 2 Walk is an annual fundraiser for the Stroke Association Victoria, 2019 will be the inaugural year for The Bendigo Stroke Support Centre.  The walk will see members, friends and family embark on 20km walk along the The O’Keefe Rail Trail to raise funds to support the many programs and activities that make the Bendigo Stroke Support Centre so valuable to the stroke community in our region. The 20km journey is a gesture of respect, gratitude and encouragement for the stroke community. Our walkers, each affected differently by stroke, are united in the goal of representing each and every stroke survivor and carer and the daily hurdles they overcome living with the effects of stroke.

Women's Jamshod night
The club was well represented on Saturday night at the women’s Jamshod. Toni, Cathy, Judy, Evelyn, Merrin, Sally and Cathy’s friend all enjoyed the evening. This was the second time we have all shared a beautiful meal and fellowship and everyone was much more relaxed as faces were recognised and shyness put aside.
We all sparkled in our jewellery and had our scarves wound around our heads, causing much laughter. Everyone danced, more so the younger women, with everyone else admiring the fabulously beaded and embroidered fabrics of the Afghani outfits.
We will happily meet again soon.
