President Report

President Report 7 Oct
Greetings all,
It is great that the State is at last on top of the Covid 19 and masks are generally off while we are outdoors, more family can visit, and restaurants and cafes can accommodate bigger numbers. Small business hopefully can recover a part of what has been lost with a bumper Christmas and holiday summer.
I have been in touch with Jason at the Bridge however he indicated it would be the New Year before he felt comfortable to offer us our usual fare. I did suggest to him we could help ourselves to a continental breakfast if he was still short of staff, however I don’t want to push him until he is ready.
Well done to John Harkin and Peter Elliot on conducting the AGM.
We have good news about the prospect of an Australia Day market after a meeting with the City. We will need to operate under Covid Safe conditions with increased spacings between stalls, but we could still fit in about 100 stall holders so we are planning to do just that. The other parts of our usual OzDay celebrations are off as crowd control considered too risky. We will however need lots of Rotarians to assist on the day.
Please keep recording the 100 Acts of Kindness with Bruce. Lizzie added to the total when she went to the aid of a total stranger who was the victim of a senseless act of vandalism when a bloke out of control jumped up and down on the bonnet and roof of a car in the middle of Mitchell St. I was very proud of her.
Rotary events coming up:

More “Behind the Badge” profiles for Bruce and the Bulletin please.

   Quote of the Week

Joke of the week:
A loving couple was celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary, privately, at home with a couple of bottles of champagne. A bit tipsy and feeling very intimate the husband turns to his wife and asks, "Tell me truthfully, have you ever been unfaithful to me?"
"Well," she replied, "since you ask, to tell you the truth I have been unfaithful on three occasions."
"What? How could you?"
"Let me tell you about it," she said. "The first time was back when we were first married. You needed open heart surgery and we didn't have the money, so I went to bed with the surgeon and got him to operate for free."
"Gee! That was noble of you. And, besides, I guess I should be grateful. But, tell me, what about the second time?"
"Do you remember that VP of Sales promotion you desperately wanted, and they were going to pass you over for someone else? Well, I went to bed with the President and he gave you the job."
"Hell, I think I could have done it on my own. But, then again, I guess I should be grateful. And so, what about the third time?"
"Do you remember two years ago when you wanted to become president of the Golf Club, and you were missing 53 votes..."

Guest Speaker
Nov 25 Nov Guest Speaker – David Grodski – Rotarian, retired GP, Best-selling Author.

David graduated in 1968 and decided he wanted to be a GP rather than a specialist and has had a lifetime of delivering personalised support to his many patients. Further study in Scotland introduced him to Holistic Medicine so in his retirement he has written a book called the Wisdom of Wellness (WOW) in this iconic year 2020. When he was young 2020 meant you had perfect vision. His vision of wellness covers 20 topics and advice on how to be at your best in life. In his address to us he covered briefly just three of the topics, and it was full of memorable quotes.

  • Being positive at the start of each day. – think of all the things you need to be grateful for.
  • Nutrition – If it is a plant, eat it, if it comes from a Plant, don’t eat it. Eat food your grandmother would recognize, only eat at a meal what would fit in the palm of your hand and, chew your food properly
  • Time management – You are will likely sleep 8 hours, work 8 hours which leaves 8 hours to be amazing. Use this time wisely, it’s the most important.
The book is available online if you Google “The Wisdom of Wellness” but better still David offered a special deal ($24.95 including postage) if you email him direct at  dhgrodski@gmail.com

Jokes

At a Sunday morning church service, the minister asked if anyone in the congregation would like to express praise for answered prayers. A lady stood and walked to the podium. She said: “I have a praise. Two months ago, my husband Tom had a terrible bicycle crash and his scrotum was completely crushed. The pain was terrible and the doctors didn’t know if they could help him.”

You could hear a muffled gasp from all the men in the congregation as they imagined the pain that poor Tom must have experienced.

“Tom was unable to hold me or the children,” she went on, “and every movement caused him terrible pain. We prayed as the doctors performed a very delicate operation,

which lasted for more than five hours. It turned out they were able to piece together the crushed remnants of Tom’s scrotum, and wrap wire around it to hold it in place.”

Again the men in the congregation were unnerved and squirmed uncomfortably as they imagined the horrible surgery that was performed on Tom.

“Now, thank the Lord,” she announced in a quavering voice, “after six weeks Tom is out of the hospital and the doctors say that, with time, his scrotum should recover completely.”

All the men sighed with relief.

The minister rose and tentatively asked if anyone else had something to say. A man stood up and walked slowly to the podium.

He said: “I’m Tom.”

The entire congregation held its breath. “I just want to tell my wife that the word is sternum.”
