The guest speaker for the meeting was David Flack. David is an early career Interior Designer who was brought up and educated in Bendigo. In a short time in the Industry he has been able to break into metropolitan, national and international markets. He currently operates out of a studio in Fitzroy and employs a team of ten. Interior Design involves the development of all the interior of a building including small details like artwork and floor coverings. David works in many different environments including residential, hospitality, commercial and retail.

 

David has always been part of the building process working with and observing his father planning and carrying out building projects. He has always had a fascination with floor plans and as a child he liked nothing better than to spend time in the “cubby house” his father had made for him. He puts his success at school down to his passion for the Arts and his determination to make a career form this. He paid special tribute to Rhonda Alexander, his year twelve Art teacher, who recognising his talent and passion did, all she could to encourage and cater for him.

 

The movie “the Devil Wears Prada” reminds David of his early times in the Industry. There was the glamour but most of the time he had to do the hard work behind the scenes. He looks back on this now as a period of solid learning which he regularly applies in his own business. He is especially proud of the invitation he received from the National Gallery of Victoria to make a submission for the Rigg Prize, a most prestigious award in the Architecture Industry. His work in developing the interior of an Elmore Homestead featured on the front cover of Vogue Magazine.

 

David Flack does Bendigo proud. Whilst often working in “high end markets” he is proud of his county upbringing and often brings this perspective to his work. Members were inspired by David’s achievements and his commitment to the Sudanese community of Fitzroy where he opens up mentoring opportunities for youth. We thank David for his most informative presentation, we wish him well with his future career and his efforts to meet the challenging times of the pandemic.
