In a tight finish, Doug just reached the chair as Stan was about to start proceedings. It wouldn’t be right, not to have two Real Estate agents on the podium at once!

Doug, after catching his breath, provided us all again with a series of useless information and tid-bits to ponder on for the rest of the day.

President’s report

Thanks again to Bluey, Pat and the Club for supporting the End Polio Now Campaign.

$15,000 donated to the Queensland flood relief.
Community Safe meeting and report re Australia Day security bollards.
Working Bee at the RANCH Thursday March 14, 8.30-2.30 to support the set up and set down for the Knitting project.

Guess who’s coming to Dinner and the 4F evenings are in the planning stage, more information later.

Ted reported on the overwhelming amount of interest in the Easter markets.

Ray and the RFE team planners have the program finalised in anticipation of the arrival of the team from Canada on March 24^th.

Note; there will be an introductory BBQ tea for the RFE team and hosts at “Briar Hill” on Monday 25^th at 6.30pm. Ray et al will need to know if you will be coming as all members are welcome. It will be like the Christmas lunch, bring a salad or dessert, so we need to know!

Tom Maher---- Maher Real Estate

Doug introduced Tom, President of the local Real Estate Institute of Victoria (REIV) branch. Tom grew up the North east of Victoria and after a stint in the Department of Agriculture (a work colleague of Dr John Harkin), then with Kilter Ag, part of an agribusiness venture by Vic Super, he commenced in real estate 8 years ago. He has been in Bendigo for 20 years.

The REIV has 2,300 agents, 5,000 individuals and over 15,000 in the industry. In Bendigo the agents all work together and are very cooperative.

Tom provided an overview of what he called the “hot topics” for the industry:

Negative gearing
Land taxes
Air B&B disrupters
New rental laws
Mortgage brokers
Investing in Bendigo
Changes in ownership

Tom provided a number of slides related to land and house sales, rental markets and general real estate conditions in the local region.

These provided for plenty of questions from the floor and Tom did indicate to Doug, that “he will get back to us” on some of the curly questions posed by Paul, Ted and Ray.

The Canadian RFE team arrive in Bendigo after lunch on Sunday, 24th March. The hosts – Cannons, Hinnebergs, Carringtons, Judy Miatke & the Woodburns, will be meeting them in Elmore at noon on that day, then bringing them to Bendigo.

The following is the itinerary, and any member of our club is very welcome to join in, but there will be some cost involved for some activities. I have put down in dot-point form what we will be doing, and the costs to members if they wish to be a part of any activity.

If anyone is not sure of what’s going on, or costs involved, I’m happy to be contacted for a fuller explanation. Thanks, Ray.

Monday, 25 March: 9.30am. Tour of Central Deborah Mine.

11.00am. Tram Tour

12.30. Lunch. ## Club members will need to be registered as Bendigo Ambassadors for the Mine & Tram tours for it to be free for them.

2.00pm. Tour of Town Hall. ## $10 pp for Club members (this is not part of the Ambassador programme).

approx 3.15pm. Visit to Great Stupa or Pottery.

6.30pm. Welcome BBQ at Lynas household. If coming, please bring a plate to share, but contact Merrin at least a few days prior, please.

Tuesday, 26 March: 9.15am. Meet at Conservatory – Bendigo Walking Tour. Cost $20pp

11.30am. Gallery visit & lunch. NB. Tudor to Windsor exhibition is on, so there will be a charge by the Gallery for a visit to see it.

2.00pm. Golden Dragon Museum Tour. There’s a charge of $11.00 pp if you are not a Bendigo Ambassador.

Approx 3.30pm. Free time for RFE team & club members. Visit to Cathedral/Law Courts/ Pottery/walk by the Ulumbarra/Shamrock/Rosalind Park, etc.

Wednesday, 27 March: 7.30-8.30am. Presentation to the club by the Canadian RFE team.

approx 9.00am. Bus Tour to Maldon & Castlemaine. Leaves Bendigo (probably from Bridge Hotel), returning around 4/4.30pm.

Thursday, 28 March: 10.30am. RFE team visit Mechanics Hall, Long Gully.

aprox 11.00am. RFE team taken to Kyneton for a lunchtime hand over to Gisborne RC.
