Industry Visit to the Engineering and Technology Facility- La Trobe University
The combined Industry visit to the Engineering and Technology Facility of La Trobe University with the Rotary Club of Bendigo South will be on Wednesday November 30th commencing at 7.45AM. Members are asked to gather in the Tutorial Room on the ground floor immediately to the right of the main entrance of the Engineering and Technology Building which is in Sharon Street opposite the roundabout. Tea and coffee will be available on arrival. There will be plenty of street parking at this time of day or alternatively parking is available until 10AM in the carpark to the left of gate eight which is the second entrance past the roundabout.
The format of the morning will be an address to explain the workings of the facility for half an hour. This will be followed by a tour of the facility for forty five minutes. Breakfast will be available in the Cafeteria at 9AM for those members able to stay. Myl Duffy has gone to a lot of trouble to arrange for a number of academic staff to explain their research and members will have the opportunity to meet Julie Rudner, Campus Director- La Trobe Bendigo.
A breakfast menu will be circulated at the November 16th meeting. To assist with catering it would be appreciated if members could nominate their preferred breakfast option.
The RYLA Rotary dinner is on Thursday 1 December at Camp Getaway. As host club we have invited all clubs in District 9800. Realistically, we can't expect many from the Melbourne clubs, other than the ones who are actually sponsoring RYLA participants. It's important though that our club and the other Goldfields clubs support the dinner. It's for members and guests including young people who might be inspired to apply for RYLA in the coming years. If you can be available to come along for what should be an interesting and good fun evening, please do so. The information including how to RSVP is in the flyer below.
Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) - Volunteers needed for the last day lunch.
RYLA runs from Sun 27 Nov to Sat 3 Dec. On the last day (Sat 3 Dec), the catering team want a break from preparing and serving the lunch so that they can be part of the final day festivities. As host club, we are asked to manage the lunch (prepare, serve and clean-up) using the Camp Getaway kitchen. We don't have to organise the provisions. We will need about 8 volunteers from 10am till around 3pm. We are expecting some volunteers from Bendigo Club (maybe 3), so if we could have 6 from our club then we will have it covered. If you can help with this, please advise Stew or Cathie.

We would like to receive, as early as possible please, expressions of interest from members who would like to serve on the board of the club for the year ahead, namely 2023 / 2024.
While all members of the current board are doing a sterling job, we would like to ensure that each and every member has the opportunity now to put their name forward if they are interested in being a board member for next year.
For those members who have not served on the board before, it is not a daunting task, and it brings you right up to speed with everything that is going on in the club, in our cluster, and our district. There is usually a mix of experienced board members and relative newcomers, making for a good range of views and opinions contributing to eventual decisions.
All meetings are very pleasurable, and conducted in an extremely polite and democratic manner.
So, please give it some thought, and contact one of us as soon as reasonably possible to register your interest in any of the following positions.

A board meeting was held last week following our regular meeting to discuss some Youth projects, donation to Rochester and the IT situation.
-FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIPS 2022-2024 for VCC Yr. 11 and 12, and VCC Yr 10 were approved for payment of $1000 each, with $500 to be refunded from Foundation.
-NYSF 2022 a payment of $1000 to Rotary Club of Eaglehawk as our contribution to cluster commitment of $6000 for parents' costs per student.
-RYLA 2022 Funding to cover program fees for two sponsored participants was approved for $1900 to District 9800.
-A donation to Rochester for the Flood Victims of $500 was approved.
-Follow-up of the IT situation and approval that steps are being taken to address this. Not an option for speakers to bring their own computer and set it up.
Stew attended our monthly session on Phoenix Radio, along with Rotarian Lynne Cooper from Eaglehawk, talking of our Youth Projects. Hoping you all listened in.
Wednesday our meeting was held at the Fire Station in Huntly. However, a couple of our members took a detour via a scenic route but eventually arrived in the nick of time. Can’t trust the GPS these days Doug and John.
We had 8 members attend, which was very disappointing when the previous week we had a show of hands that 15-20 would attend and had catered for this number.
Captain Tony and his team gave us a very interesting tour and detailed history of the station. Their equipment now used is extremely effective along with the highly skilled team to deal with any emergency fire situation. It was a very informative visit and unfortunate for those who missed this.
For our next Industry Tour to Latrobe can we please have names and numbers by next week.
We have continued Zoom meetings with the Cluster on a regular basis. The houses now reported to be affected are 1300. At this stage we are just looking at monetary donations as storage is an issue for items. The plan for the Cluster is to further assess the situation to see what is required next.
I received a call from Carol and Rob Guley regarding their son Stephen. Unfortunately, he has been diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia and will be undergoing fairly intense treatments. Can we please keep them in our thoughts and prayers?
To our other members that are not traveling so well, let us know if you need assistance, please. We are only a phone call away.
We have 12 Rotarians from our club attending the Foundation Dinner, hoping a few more can come along. A great time to network and share with our other clubs and hear Murray Verso speak on Polio.

On Wednesday morning, our Club had the pleasure of presenting a very worthy Trevor Strauch, a long time member of the Huntly Fire Brigade, with a PHF. Here is a rundown from the event:
