Hi Everyone,
Today we welcomed the RC Eaglehawk to our meeting for an official visit. We also had 4 representatives from the Bendigo Maubisse Friendship Committee to listen to the presentation. Tom Byrne and Kevin Twycross who went with the last team came along to help Doug with the presentation.
Also welcome to Marcus’s 2 daughters who joined their father for breakfast. Welcome girls.
Ken Evers has resigned from the club. We need someone to take on managing the club merchandise. Contact Conor if you can help out with this.
A reminder about RC Rochester‘s 50th Birthday celebrations. Bruce has circulated the invitations.
We received a letter of thanks from RI for the donation we made recently to The Rotary Foundation.
Mark Weregoda reminded everyone of the social function at his place on Sat 27th Sept. Please get numbers to him by next Saturday.
John Cannon reported back about the HALT lunch for the staff and apprentices at TAFE. There were 280 present and the BBQ went well. Thanks to the volunteers who helped out.
Peter Elliott gave an update for the BBEA. The judge’s dinner was held last week and it was a very positive experience. He thanked the team for all the hard work they have put into this year’s event.
Our guest speaker this week was Doug Lougoon who spoke on behalf of the teams who have been working on the kitchen project in Maubisse.  The team Doug was in was the 38th   Bendigo Maubisse Friendship Committee team to go to Maubisse in Timor Leste.
This project came about because of Sister Lourdes who spent some time here in Bendigo with Lindsay and Judy Murphy. Judy took her with her to do Meals on Wheels and Sister Lourdes felt this was something her community would benefit from. She was able to get the support of the Timor Leste government, the Australian Embassy and the USA embassy. Or club successfully applied for a matching grant to build and furnish a kitchen to cook the meals in.
There were 3 teams involved in completing the project. Members from the RC of Eaglehawk were in team 36 and team 37 had Bendigo based firemen and ambulance drivers in it. These two teams got the framework completed – despite the difficulties associated with the container of supplies not arriving as planned. Team 38 had our club members and Tom (metal worker) and Kevin (electrician). They were able to complete the project during their time there – very long hours were worked to achieve this.
During their time there, the parish priest asked them to give a presentation to the community of what the Bendigo Maubisse Friendship teams have been involved in over the years to encourage more community engagement with the rebuilding.
When Doug finished his presentation, Kevin reflected on his experience. This is the 2nd trip Kevin has been on and he has found it very rewarding to be able to provide help and support to another community.
Well done to everyone involved.
Have a great week and see you all next week.
Cheers, Cathie

Two Polish hunters, Stosh and Stan, got a pilot to fly them into the Wisconsin wilderness, where they managed to bag two big Bull Moose.
As they were loading the plane to return, the pilot said the plane could take only the hunters, their gear and one Moose.
Stosh objected strongly saying, "Last year we shot two, and the pilot let us take them both.... and he had exactly the same airplane as yours."
Reluctantly the pilot, not wanting to be outdone by another bush pilot, gave in and everything was loaded.
However, even under full power, the little plane couldn't handle the load and went down, crashing in the wooded wilderness.
Somehow, surrounded by the moose, clothing and sleeping bags, Stosh and Stan survived the crash.
After climbing out of the wreckage, Stosh asked Stan, "Any idea where we are?"
Stan replied, "Yeah I think we're pretty close to the same spot where we crashed last year."
