Vice President Report 03.06.15
Congratulations to BBEA Chair Gerard House and his trusty Committee and Jaime Cail, the Awards Administrator on last week’s outstanding launch of the 21st Bendigo Business Excellence Awards. The event was well attended by sponsors including our Naming Rights Sponsor Powercor Australia, past winners and Members. The event was well covered in local media and given the personal feedback I have received you can expect that this year’s Awards are not only off to great start but an even better finish in October. So please promote the Awards within your own networks and make sure that you, and they, are nominating worthy businesses. Rest assured that, with the encouragement of the Awards team, those businesses will enjoy the benefits of the Awards process and be in the running to be recognised in these most prestigious Awards.
The previous week our guest speaker Ken Marchingo from Haven: Home, Safe gave Members a great overview of the Tsunami Housing Project in Ambalangoda, Sri Lanka instigated by our Club and ‘snowballed’ by the then Loddon Mallee Housing Services and Bendigo Bank Community Enterprise Foundation. The latest stage completed was the construction of some three storey residences incorporating business premises on the ground floor. Sri Lanka's T20 Captain Dinesh Chandimal was just a boy when the 2004 Boxing Day tsunami decimated much of the country, including his home town of Ambalangoda, and 10 years after this event, Dinesh has related to Ken Marchingo how the combined efforts of the three organisations has not only rebuilt a community, but really changed lives for the better.
I have just spoken to ‘Captain’ Dowell and he’s in good spirit with “everything progressing well”. He is scheduled for his bone marrow transplant tomorrow afternoon so we continue to wish him well.
Best wishes also to Rob Guley who underwent surgery yesterday and is on the road to recovery. Please refer to Bruce Fraser’s earlier email for contact details.
Don’t forget our Changeover Night is July 4th at the Boardwalk. If you have not responded to your Clubrunner invitation please do so and make it an evening to remember!
Cheers
Vice President Doug
