President's Message

President’s Note

Vale. Rob Plowman:  It is with regret and sadness that we note the passing of a recent member of our club, following an accident in his home. Funeral June 23 Croydon Hills Melbourne.

My week in Rotary:

Representing RCoBs at BBEA Awards; attending the formal true gala of RC Bendigo ChangeOver; and then North to the Echuca Moama Steam Rally and Rotary Showcase, complete with DG, DGE, and DGEN, Neville, Peter and Grant.

Around to Interact Us during the week to collect the new projector and screen, thence to the rowdy buzz of our regular meeting; and finally RCoBS rep at BBEA Winners’ Dinner at FOS Friday night.

As many know, I cancelled Message Bank the day I retired and usually look at emails and text messages the next morning. However, this week I retreated to ear muffs, helmet and face guard for a noisy chain saw and mulcher, and some return-to-earth time.

Today, I’ve attempted to interpret the various awards and projects suggested by Rotary International and D9800, and clear my “Rotary Desk”.

I’ll forward these four documents to all members once I can identify the respective url [“Uniform Resource Locator”] addresses:

        D9800 Strategic Plan 2017 – 2020 flyer

        Rotary International Presidential Citation brochure

My Rotary goals 2017/18 doc for completion

Club Planning and Support Guide 2017-2018

The last is due for completion prior to July 15 2017.

Judy Miatke, our Protection officer has agreed to address the recent changes to child protection regulations in Victoria.

Tony Plant, that inimitable, always smiling nothing’s-too-much-trouble man from RC Bendigo South visited the house of Tony [Southcombe], {The Bridge Hotel}, to chat to us about South’s venture with Ulumbarra Foundation: The Welsh Choir and Slivie Paladino, in September, and his club’s push with Australian Rotary Health, early in October, to raise funds for ARH Mental Health projects.

He promises the attendance of a certain very entertaining Rotarian, and suggests an all-in Hat Day Function October, to replace our weekly meeting.

Generous Ray Carrington put up his hand to coordinate our attendees at Ulumbarra and we’ve yet to find a volunteer to steer Hat Day for RCoBS. The Dame has flown North.  She doesn’t know yet that I’ve had a phone call donating even more clothing.

Now, late on a Sunday night I’ve just had a life event:

Headed for the “Horlick’s” instead of a nip of the single malt.

“Horlick’s !!  Shades of lights out on those long English terrazzo tiled male medical wards. Is this an age event?

And yes Paul, I’ll get around to a President’s Report for that Annual Report. And yes Bernadette, we shall find a home for all that “Rotary Stuff” piled up in our front hall/lobby, when we sort-out our new meeting venue. Not to mention our “stash” of Martin’s coffee in my bloke’s shed.

Looking forward to our ChangeOver night July 7th at The Metropolitan.

G for George.
