President’s Report

Over half way through the winter months and the longer days are accruing.

- Meeting numbers were a little down last week, but are aware some members have migrated to the warmer states.

-Our speaker Shae was highly informative re the Lifeblood story and has encouraged us all to tap into donating the Gift of Life.

None of us are exempt from needing a transfusion at any stage in our future.

-Unfortunately, the IT has caused ongoing issues for our speakers, so have another followed up again on Monday to try to rectify this.

- A special thanks to Cathie Miller who has devoted much time been speaking at all the Cluster clubs about the Regionalisation project.

I encourage you all to reread up on the information as we will be required to vote early September. Aim is to partly provide better and

more unified support to Rotary and build a stronger unified Rotary Brand.

-Adrian and his team have met this week to discuss and finalize further details for the Auction. Individually we all need to spread the word to get people and their piggy banks along.

- Last night was the final Changeover dinner for Echuca Club. Another great opportunity to share with the cluster team and to congratulate Heather Watson President of Rochester Club on her very special well deserved award .

-We are waiting confirmation from Castlemaine Rotary Club re a date to attend a meeting at their club. It will be a Wednesday evening that will replace our breakfast one.

Guest Speaker

The guest speaker for the meeting was Shae Burns. Shae is the Group Account Manager for Bendigo, Shepparton, Wangaratta and Albury for Australian Red Cross Lifeblood. Shae pointed out that 33,000 donations of blood are required each week to support patients. All blood groups are needed but especially o negative donors. Shae outlined the following five reasons why donating blood is a rewarding thing to do.

Giving blood denotes a sense of service. It helps others who are often in vulnerable situations.
Australia is becoming a more diverse country. Over half of our fellow Australians are born overseas. A more diverse group of donors is needed to make provision for this.
Giving blood is a good life habit to create. One in three Australians will need blood during their lifetime. Donors could be providing for a friend or a relative who is fighting an illness, having surgery or giving birth.
Lifeblood provides snacks to suit individual tastes after blood donations.
Giving blood can develop a bond between people. Saving lives together can be a very rewarding shared activity.

People over eighteen and weighing more than fifty kilograms can donate blood. Most medications are not a restriction. Donors who have recently had a tattoo can give plasma immediately and blood after four months. The Bendigo Blood Donor Centre is located at 6-8 High Street and the contact number is 131495. We thank Shae for raising our awareness of this vital community service and for the giving of her time to be our guest.

In case you have one or more items for the upcoming auction, can you please send me a photo and description of the item(s) together with the reserve price

for each by Monday 18th July at the latest.

I have planned to finalise the list together with further information for distribution on Tuesday so that it can then be circulated and promoted.

If you haven’t given me a reserve price at this stage, could you please do that so that we are more likely to see a fair bid on that item?
