We welcomed Peter Downes to our meeting again today – great to see you again Peter.
Six members attended the Foundation dinner last Thursday to hear Rotary Peace Scholar Stephanie Woollard speak – an inspirational woman. She is the founder of the 7 Women organisation in Nepal. This organisation helps women with disability (and other marginalised women) to develop an income for themselves and develop literacy and numeracy skills. The organisation is now going to remote communities to develop these skills in the women of these villages.
The model that has been developed with the project is now being taken to other countries.
On Sunday Stephanie had the first screening of a documentary that has been produced about the project. If you get a chance, it is worth seeing.
Anne Peace is the Rotary Foundation Grants facilitator for our clusters and she reminded us that we can access grants for local events. I will send some information to Bruce to distribute to the members about the Foundation. I will also include some information about the Rotary Peace Fellowship program, as they are looking for nominations.
Paul Kirkpatrick reminded us that tomorrow is International Day for People with Disability. Thanks to those people who have volunteered to help set up the stalls in Hargreaves Mall.

Youth Services
We are co-sponsoring a RYLA participant with RC Bendigo Strathdale. The successful participant is Ashley Arnold.
This year, our club will being presenting 4 awards at the Weeroona College awards night.
These awards will be titled the
“RC of Bendigo Sandhurst Service Above Self Award”.
The award will be $150, consisting of $100 cash, $50 book voucher and a certificate.
The students involved in the Fiji project are currently in Fiji and expected back next week.
Vocational Service
Adrian has been successful in getting a spot in this year’s conference. The project with Weeroona College will be presented at a break out session.
Community Services
A reminder about the breakfast we are providing on Friday to the RACV bike riders at the North Bendigo oval.
Peter Rainey is working hard on the planning and preparation for Australia Day. Evelyn has also been doing a lot of work on both the Australia Day and Easter markets.
Club
John said numbers were good for our Christmas break up and the Hypothetical on Saturday. There are still some vacancies, so see John Cannon if you can come.
John discussed the issue with our current meeting place. TAFE are going to start renovation work on the room, so we won’t be able to use it for an indeterminate time.
There is a room in another part of the building we can use and we had a look at it today. Discussion followed about its suitability. The general consensus was to look for other potential sites but ideas are needed. There was also some discussion on the opportunity to consider other meeting options. Remember, we are doing the flexible club project and this is our chance to consider what will work best for our club into the future.
