This week saw us meet at the Bendigo Sports and Entertainment Centre for the first of our cluster meetings. There will be 2 allocated meetings per year to be organised jointly by 2 clubs. This year it was Bendigo South and Bendigo Sandhurst organising the meeting.
Big thanks Ray and John for being on the committee and to Evelyn for supporting them with the booking and payment process.
The meeting was a Foundation meeting and the 2 guest speakers were Rotary Peace Scholar Alumni – Superintendent Charles Allen and Inspector Russell Patten.
Both men were very passionate about promoting peace and spoke about the project they instigated (along with other community groups, Rotary Clubs and the Victoria Police) in Dandenong with the Sudanese community to engage the youth and change destructive behaviours.
From this project there are now other programs developing. They spoke about the importance of understanding the conflict before strategies can be put in place to resolve it.
They also gave some insight into what is required of a Rotary Peace Scholar and their experiences and learnings.
Next Tuesday is our next fellowship night at Pat’s pub, so come along for a catch-up, chat and/or meal. Remember, family and friends are welcome.
The AGM will take place at our meeting next week prior to Club Forum. The audited Financial Report is on Club Runner for everyone to read before next week.
Have a great week. Cheers, Cathie
