President's Message

Jack Frost around this [Thursday] morning as Bailey the K9 Schnauzer and I explored the white glistening Back Creek and Wolstencroft Reserve.

Glenn Maloney patiently listened to my patter as we two manned a gate at Federation Picnic Sunday.
That wind was so COLD.
Ray Carrington was more than welcome with coffees and sumptuous hot fare in bread rolls.
Kevin Reade and Team had organised a slick catering tent.
Final wash-up not going to threaten TattsLotto, but, it’s good to get out there and do some hands-on stuff, and laugh together.

Frustration:
Cannot send emails on ClubRunner. Those Canadians must be asleep.
Then, a bit of lateral thinking and I fixed it.

[George and Bernadette have taken the plunge:
The process of retailer [Telstra] connecting us to the NBN is happening seamlessly as predicted, all as I negotiated our bills DOWN].

On behalf of the Balgownie Twelve, Wednesday morning, I have sent this message to Balgownie Winery:
Tony and Liam
Thank you for an interesting informative morning Wednesday.
12 of us know a little more of the extra ordinarily complex art of wine making. I shall include some of the October events in my newsletter
George Waters
President
Rotary Club Bendigo Sandhurst.

We learned that Balgownie, out there just off the highway at Maiden Gully, was established in 1969, and is now “top of the pile” as not only an iconic Victorian winery, but, also, probably Australia’s finest Boutique Winery.
Handcrafting is down to even very experienced pruners assessing each individual vine before those secateurs spring into action.

Under the category of. “What the hell, let’s do it” I’d suggest the Bendigo Heritage Uncorked Festival Saturday October 14th, and especially the Dinner @ Balgownie Friday October 13th.

Ahh the pleasures of life:
David from Town Tanks Bendigo just called around [we’re revamping the grey water system] and lo and behold his plumber consultant is Newton from RedCliffs. Me having spent eight years in Mildura and RedCliffs, and he a RedCliffs boy and man, this fortuitous meeting led Newton and I into a right old long chin wag. [David was very patient …… ]

Trivial Pursuit Question:
What’s the name of the timber Murray and Darling river steam boat captains sought in the forests; can warp a Coonara; sparks when cut with diamond tipped circular saw; and, exists now only as the oldest strainer posts on historical Mildura blocks?

Today Thursday is looming as a perfect sunny day … perfect for George to “damage some timber” with the Triton WorkCentre 2000, and do some more gardening. Not a day to be inside on this laptop.

Thursday was gardening; Friday Wood Work and today Saturday
Working Bee at THE RANCH re-fitting shelving. [You’d think all those shelves would be the same size … Life’s not that easy] …
{Patti’s home and back to her “on fire” old self}.
And now I’m thwarted by the rain … belt sander put away … Rain + Live 240V outside not a good combo.

Thanks Cathie [Miller] for the good work your committees are doing in the background. We appreciate it.

Father’s Day’s gunna be quiet:
Casey and Boys in Canada
Raechel in New Mexico
Naomi and girls in Wolverhampton
Well, Tim’s in Melbourne …
Rotary Clusters Meeting postponed to October from Father’s Day.

Meanwhile:
  • Do read The Networker this issue. Lesley has done him proud.
  • We patiently wait for an opinion on the Child Protection Issue.
  • The Committees “Wish List” still beckons volunteers.
  • Ted Gretrix is talking to OTIS Tannery Lane about planting grasses, shrubs and trees … I’ll discuss with him during the week.
  • THE RANCH committee will meet next week to “nail” Opening Day.

D9800 News includes:

Jokes
A lawyer, who had a wife and 12 children, needed to move because his rental agreement was terminated as the owner wanted to reoccupy the home.
But he was having a lot of difficulties finding a new house.
When he said he had 12 children, no one would rent a home to him because they felt that the children would destroy the place.
He couldn't say he had no children because he couldn't lie - and we all know lawyers cannot and do not lie.
So, he sent his wife for a walk to the cemetery with 11 of their kids.   He took the remaining one with him to see rental homes with the real estate agent.
He loved one of the homes and the price was right   -   the agent asked: "How many children do you have ?"
He answered: "Twelve."
The agent asked, "Where are the others ?"
The lawyer, with his best courtroom sad look, answered, "They're in the cemetery with their mother.”
MORAL:       It's not necessary to lie, one only has to choose the right words.     And don’t forget, most politicians are lawyers.
