Co-President's report
Co-Presidents Report for 26 th Nov 25

We had very good numbers for the AGM this AM – both in person and online.
We also welcomed Andrew Johnson who was with RC of Devonport but has now
moved to Victoria and has been visiting clubs in the area.

Our guest speaker couldn’t attend this am due to a family emergency, so Graeme
Lynas stepped up to tell us about his trip to Malaysia earlier this year. Thank you,
Graeme.
Graeme also acknowledged the passing of Monsignor Frank Marriott and the great
support he gave to the Afghan Jamshod dinners some of our members were
involved in.
Graeme also updated the members on the distribution of clothing from DIK that he
and John Cannon have been doing. The latest lot of clothing is being distributed to
Foodshare, the ED department at Bendigo Health and other community meal
groups. They have also supplied some furniture to some recent refugee arrivals.

Jim Rolfe is compiling the RSVPs for the joint dinner with RC Bendigo and our
Christmas dinner – please let Jim know if you are attending.

Liz wished our golfing team good luck for the Toyota Foodshare tournament on
Friday.

The bulletin team reminded members to send in stories and photos to help keep the
bulletin interesting.

A reminder about the multidistrict conference in Horsham next March. See below for
more information.

Stew advised that the Environment committee has registered for Clean Up Australia
on March 1 st , 2026. We will be cleaning up along Howard Street between the Epsom PS and Coliban Water treatment plant. Phil Britton will be liaising with the PS.

Stew also updated us on all the activity going on in the Youth Services area:
- RYLA is taking place at Camp Getaway at the end of the week. Stew has sent an
email to all members with details of the RYLA dinner. I encourage members to attend
as it is great to see the results from these events.
- The sailing Challenge is in January and there have been 2 candidates. We are
sponsoring one and Bendigo is sponsoring the other one. Both students are from
Marist College
- NYSF – there are 16 Bendigo based students attending in Jan. This is a great
outcome from the work Lyn Cooper from RC Eaglehawk has been doing to promote
the program to our regional students.
- Stew spoke about some of the recipients of the City of Greater Bendigo Youth
Awards and the great work they are doing in the community.

Stan advised that copies of the Attendance Record and Incident Report forms will be
kept in the trailer for easy access. They will also be on ClubRunner.

Guest Speaker
Thanks to Graeme Lynas for stepping in at very short notice to be the morning's guest speaker.
Graeme gave us an overview of his recent trip to Malaysia. Graeme's visit was twofold, firstly to visit the two teachers that Graeme and Merrin home hosted last year, and secondly to travel to some areas of the "beaten track" in that country.
Merrin and Graeme explored some of the history and wildlife of Malaysia.

An interesting impromptu presentation, thank you Graeme.

RYLA 2025 Program
The RYLA camp starts Sun 30 Nov and ends on Sat 6 Dec.  It will be at Camp Getaway this year and is hosted by Rotary Castlemaine.
Our club will sponsor 20yr old Michael Madel. Michael is one of twin boys, (Michael and Paul). They are refugees from South Sudan. They have been in Bendigo for 8 months. Both are studying English speaking at TAFE and are playing soccer at Golden Square where they have catapulted the fortunes of the team to never before seen heights. Next year they will go on to further vocational training. They are terrific young guys. Bendigo Club will sponsor Michael’s brother Paul.

Stew Annan

The Guest Speaker at the combined meeting with RC Bendigo on Dec 9th will be George Petrou speaking about his new book The Art of Humanity.
The book outlines the outstanding contribution which some little known Australians have made to their communities. Included are some beautiful photographs which George himself has taken.

Members may wish to view a collection of George Petrou's artwork at the Bendigo RSL Museum.
