Hi everyone,
A Board meeting was held on Monday. The minutes will be uploaded into CR when completed. Geoff is in the process of re-organising the folders for the Board meetings so hopefully it will be easier and quicker to find the information relating to each meeting. Thanks Geoff.
I have a free ticket for some-one to attend  “Cinema Magic” put on by Bendigo and District Concert Band. It is for Aug 23rd. Contact me if you would like to make use of it.

Dowell has improved enough to be able to get home to his daughter’s. Thinking of you Dowell and hope the improvement continues.
Next week is the official visit from our DG – Murray Verso, so come along to meet your new DG.

Cath McDonald was our guest speaker in her role as an ambassador for Stroke Safe Victoria
She pointed out quite clearly that anyone over the age of 45 is at risk of having a stroke. Stroke is the 2nd biggest killer and the leading cause of disability. 30% of stroke survivors are under the age of 65.
Many strokes are preventable:
Know your numbers – an elevated blood pressure is a major risk. Get your BP checked regularly - it can be done at a pharmacy
Avoid tobacco smoke – not just no smoking
Maintain a healthy weight and make healthy food choices
Keep salt intake low – aim for 4 mgs a day. Most Australians have 9 mgs a day
Be physically active
Keep alcohol intake low
She also spoke about the signs of a stroke. FAST
Face – is there drooping?
Arms – can they lift their arms?
Speech – is it slurred or can they understand what is said to them?
Time – critical. Call an ambulance.  The sooner medical help is available, the better the chance of reducing the impact
More information can be found at www.strokefoundation.com.au or phone strokeline on 1800STROKE (787653)
Cath is available to give talks at workplaces, so contact her if you want to get this information to your collegues.
Have a good week everyone.

Thought from the Greatest Living Scottish Thinker--Billy Connolly.
