Vice President Report 10.06.14
Thanks to Phil Harris and everyone else involved in organising our Vocational Visit to the New Generation Bendigo Library Wednesday week ago. The Sim’r Café put on a lovely breakfast in what seems like a great venue for a Rotary Club Meeting – hmm!
Bridget Robertson, Community Engagement and Programs Officer for the North Central Goldfields Library Corporation gave Members a great overview of the new library and its associate activities, including but not limited to the library collection, Bendigo Regional Archives Centre, Bendigo Volunteer Resource Centre and various community spaces. The library has also introduced an RFID system for the control of the library collection – don’t worry, to save you looking it up, I did – it stands for Radio Frequency Identification Devices. So, if you haven’t returned your borrowed resource – they know where you live!
Thanks to Bruce Fraser and all the ‘hands on’ workers who made a great success of our last barbecue effort for the Rotary year at the Midstate MOPARS 2014 on Sunday of the long weekend. The financial outcome is still to be finalised but I am sure it will be just reward for the efforts of Members.
I am sure you all join with me in offering sincere sympathy and support to Kevin and Deb Reade and their extended family on the passing of Kevin’s brother Len in Sydney on May 30th and also to George Waters and Bernadette and the Waters family on the passing of George’s mother Mavis on June 8th.
At our Board meeting last Tuesday we were able to gain some further insight from Leah Sertori and Patti Cotton in a session that will result in some goals being set for improving the governance of our Club heading in to the new Rotary year. Thanks to Leah and Patti for their guidance in this area.
Also at the Board Meeting, after a recent email request from President Dowell to consider a distribution from available funds, there was a unanimous decision to support Friends R 4, a community initiative established in 2008 by Dr. Ronnie Goldberg OAM and the Rotary Club of Williamstown (District 9800), President Dowell’s ‘old’ Club. It was decided to donate $5,000 to Friends R 4 which has the following aims:   (a) provide funding for urgent medical research  (b) purchase desperately required equipment at local institutions and centres (c) provide assistance to cancer sufferers and their families (d) help promote the prevention and awareness of skin cancer. More information can be found on their website http://www.friendsr4.org.au/
Thanks also to available Directors and PP Stan Hendy for updating the Members about recent Club activity and ongoing projects.
Don’t forget if you haven’t replied via Clubrunner for our Changeover on July 4th at The Boardwalk please do so as soon as you have read the bulletin.
See you next Wednesday,
Vice President Doug
The club changeover is fast approaching, as you will have already read Evelyn Lehmann's invitation, please reply with your numbers ASAP.

The new Presidential year is about to commence and you have noted the absence  of a Sergeant's session (haven't you?), this will therefore increase the number of members available for rostering. If you have been noticing how often you are rostered at present, it is because of too many of you getting sick or holidaying overseas. (stop it at once). A quick email with your leave or absence dates would help.
