President's report
Presidents Report 36.
What a wonderful story Madeleine presented to us last week about her family history and younger years. Many thanks for sharing her ventures. We look forward to hearing more about our members' experiences.
Bendigo and Bendigo South ran a great dinner meeting last Tuesday night with the guest speakers updating us online banking and how to avoid fraud and scams. It was a well-represented night by all the cluster clubs.
Stew and Mark are collating a new banner on our Environmental Sustainability projects, hopefully we will see this for the Easter Markets.
Many thanks to John Cannon who has volunteered to do a run to DIK for the Rochester people on Tuesday.
Last Tuesday we had Brad Quillam, RAWCS National Projects Supervisor, updating us on the flood situation in NSW and Victoria and reviewing some further ideas. especially in the mental health areas.
I believe the Barham weekend was an enormous success again. Kevin, your yearly commitment to arrange this for the club is very much appreciated and thoroughly enjoyed. We sincerely thank you.
Zoom Cluster meetings continue and have been a priority keeping Rochester connected.
A get well wish to Brian Hinneberg recovering from his covid episode.
A very big week, leading up to Easter, stay well rested and, charged for the markets and BBQ. Ted, Rob and Kev have been working tirelessly coordinating this event and their families may have them back in the next few weeks. On going thanks for your efforts.
Some events are coming up with other clubs, see flyers attached.
Enjoy your week and focus on health in mind and body.
Pres Judy.
Guest Speaker
Member Presentation: Madeleine Schoo
Our newest member, Madeleine, gave us a lovely insight into her life history, from her idyllic sounding childhood through to her current position as our newest Treasurer. One of eight children from a small village in the Netherlands, spending time cycling everywhere, including to Germany for holidays, and to school through the snow.
She described earning pocket money by doing chores at home and by helping local farmers, which she and her siblings could take to the Fair. Later at eighteen, working in Home Help and meeting her husband Adrian while working in his parent’s restaurant.
Madeleine studied P.E. at Teachers College and played all manner of sports, excelling at volleyball.
Her working life began as a Primary School teacher, 38 students in a Jenaplan School, comparable to a Rudolf Steiner model. At the same time, she studied and became a Secondary School Biology teacher, continuing part time after the birth of their first child.
In 1982 the family came to Australia, where Madeleine gained qualifications in Social Work and Relationship Counselling. She worked extensively in Aged Care, Physiotherapy and Community health services, and found time to volunteer in a vast array of pursuits, including but not limited to: Vicswim, Meals on Wheels, Scouting, Little Aths, Palliative Care, and Fossals (Landcare).
It's difficult to work out how she found the time to become our treasurer, but the saying “If you want something done, give it to a busy person” has never rung truer. We are fortunate to have her smiling face and friendly manner in our presence and thank her very much for sharing some of her story with us.

Barham Weekend
.
Some shots from the Barham weekend and from all reports a great time was had by all. A little R&R, a "friendly" game of Lawn bowls and a pleasant meal at none other than the Happy Elephant, just a few highlights
Winners are grinners but
we are keeping the trophy
