Co-President’s Report
Thank you all for your engagement and input into our club forum on Wednesday, as the results of the previous evenings’ board meeting were revealed and discussed. It’s important to keep us all well-informed of board decisions and the reasons they were made. The next board meeting is to be held on Tuesday, 12 December, so if members wish to have input into the agenda, there’s plenty of time to do so. It will be held at Toni and Ray’s home, 179 Wattle St, commencing at 5pm, and will also be available to view on our usual ZOOM link.
The Regionalization Project continues apace. All clubs in Zone 8 have been asked to nominate the type of Rotary Community Group they wish to belong to. The Groups will likely be of a geographic nature, or a special interest nature, or perhaps even a grouping of, say, e-clubs. We believe that the current structure of cluster clubs in our area is working well, so have expressed our wish for us to be included in a geographic community group. We will know shortly the result of this election process, and the next steps to be taken in this 3-year trial of reorganizing Rotary in our zone.
Rotary Christmas Cakes and Puddings are available for purchase now. This fund-raiser for the Rotary Foundation has been running for many years now as a project of the Melton Valley Rotary Club. Locally, Bendigo South have purchased cakes and puddings, and are happy to on-sell them to us. Cakes are $22 each in a reusable tin or $20 in a box, while the 1 kilo steamed puddings are $20 each. If you would like to buy anything, please contact Ray, who is compiling orders from our club.
The Business Excellence Awards turn 30 years old next year. This event, started by us, led to our club receiving a District 9800 Vocational Service Award in its first year. We have been contacted by Be.Bendigo, who now run the event, to see if we can provide any historical information regarding previous overall winners of the Award. If any member can assist with this, please see Ray as soon as reasonably possible.
Bendigo Hospital Foundation Event with Bendigo Toyota. Held on Friday, from 5.30 onwards, with the theme of Disco Bingo, our club supported Bendigo Toyota with a BBQ at their Epsom premises. The food Bendigo Toyota provided was of a very high quality, catering for meat-lovers, vegetarian and gluten-free diners, and also providing a good variety of healthy salads. We were up for the challenge, and got plenty of compliments for the quality of the food we cooked.
Many of the bingo players really got into the 70’s theme for the night, so we hope Bendigo Toyota is ultimately pleased with its fund-raising effort and had a lot of fun along the way. Thanks to all of our members who were able
to help out on the night, particularly Rob Rosaia, who worked with the company to put the event together so successfully. We had a lot of laughs, and it wasn’t hard work at all.
A request from joint presidents Adrian and Ray
Now is the time for club members to consider standing for club board positions for next year.
While all board members are doing a sterling job in their respective positions, we would like to ensure that each and every member has the opportunity now to put their name forward if they are interested in being a board member for the 2024 / 2025 year.
If you haven’t served on the board before, don’t worry. There is usually a mix of experienced board members and relative newcomers, making for a good range of views and opinions contributing to eventual decisions. All meetings are very pleasurable, and conducted in an extremely polite and democratic manner. At present, they are usually held around 6-8 weeks apart, unless something of an urgent nature needs to be addressed. Meetings are usually of around 1.5 hours duration, and can be attended via ZOOM if you are unable to be personally present.
So please give it some thought, and contact either Adrian or Ray as soon as possible, hopefully prior to our AGM in
late November, to register your interest in any of the following positions:
