PRESIDENT REPORT for 14 October 2026
President’s Report
In lieu of our normal meeting last week, the Club provided a Community Service, bacon and egg sandwich breakfast for cyclists participating in National Ride2Work Day. This is an annual event, organised by the Bicycle Network. Bicycle Network is Australia’s biggest bike riding organisation. Supported by nearly 50,000 members nationwide its aims centre around healthy lifestyle and care for the environment. Numbers were a bit down on previous years. Possibly because it was a bit cold, but more likely because the venue for the breakfast was changed from the Town Hall/GovHub precinct to the Military Museum forecourt. That aside, we had a good roll-up of RCoBS members to help with the cooking and to support the event. Special thanks to Kevin Reade, Stan Hendy and Kevin Dobson for the early start to set-up and kick off the bbq.
Rotary Community Leader for our northern area Community Peter Shepheard, is taking a break from the role for a little while. Peter experienced the very recent sad loss of his father and in addition, has also experienced some health challenges that he is working through. In the interim, Alison Bacon (RCoEaglehawk) who preceded Peter in his Community Leader role, has made herself available for assistance to Clubs while Peter is unavailable.
There’s quite a lot happening over the next few weeks. Firstly, the Club Board will meet this coming Tuesday. Directors will provide feedback on key points at our Club meeting on Wednesday. Also this coming Wednesday, we look forward to guest speaker Valerie Truant who is President of the Palliative Care Auxiliary. It’s a tough subject that needs very dedicated people. I’m sure her talk will be both interesting and thought provoking. On Thursday next week we have the opportunity to attend a RCoBSouth meeting where the guest speaker will be Kebe Wolde-Giorgis. Kebe will present on the Ethiopia Partnership Project. Again it should be very interesting and provides an opportunity to engage with our Rotary colleagues at Bendigo South. I encourage members to come along. The Rotary Foundation Dinner is coming up (Tue 27th), hosted by RCoBendigo. The RSVP date to Wayne Smith ( mailto:chartall@bigpond.com ) is by 20th Oct. Should be a good night and proceeds go toward Rotary’s polio eradication efforts.
Finally, a reminder that there is no Club meeting scheduled for Wed fortnight (28th), which is Bendigo Cup public holiday.
Trying to keep warm. The snags definitely helped with that.
Supporting kindergarten and child care centre
Last week Merrin, Rob and Graeme delivered a mix of kindergarten toys and furniture plus assorted laundry and cleaning products to the Golden Square Community kindergarten and child care centre, the Bendigo District Aboriginal cooperative child care centre. Twelve large boxes of new born nappies were also delivered to Sunshine. Great to see the impact. Well done.
And well received
For the music lovers. A great positive movie
