Good to see you again Amy.
Most of today’s meeting was dedicated to discussing the RI Flexible and Innovative Clubs project. Thanks to Paul Henderson for his electronic whiteboard skills and to both Paul H and Paul Kirkpatrick for their leadership on this. Thanks also for the good participation from the members present today. There were some great ideas put forward.
Paul & Paul will collate the responses and develop some options to present to the members next week. If anyone has some other ideas from today’s discussion, email Paul within the next 2 days to get them into the options.
Next week the options will be presented and the members will decide which way they want to go. If the vote is to move forward with applying to be one of the pilot clubs doing this project, then the option selected will be expanded to provide more detail.
This detailed plan will then be presented to the members and every member needs to vote. This vote will need to be taken by the meeting on 25th March.
If 66% of the members agree to go ahead with the project, then an application will be sent to become a pilot club. We then have to wait to see if our application is accepted.
 
Director’s Reports
Community Service – lots of activity coming up. Rosters are currently being developed for the Good Friday BBQ and market (numbers needed for “bumping in”), as well as the Sunday market.
These are busy days for the club, so we need lots of people available to keep the workload evenly spread.
April has the HALT BBQ and Anzac Day and May has the Groov’n the Moo BBQ.
Youth Services – Martin has met with the cluster Youth Services Directors. We didn’t have any nominations for RYPEN but other clubs had too many.
We have agreed to sponsor 2 students to this program.
Club Service – Conor reminded the members on the fellowship activities coming up in relation to the Rotary Friendship Exchange team coming from England.
International Service – Cath has put a paper into the Board for consideration regarding sending a load of knitting to East Timor. More details after the Board meeting.

Another night of fellowship & fun.
Our club has reserved 40 excellent seats (upper stalls) at the new theatre, to see UK comedian, Ross Noble.  27 tickets have already been sold, at the discounted price of $43.00 each.  We need to know by Thursday 19 March, if other Rotarians or friends intend to go to the concert.  At that point, we need to inform the Capital Theatre so that tickets not required can be released back to the general public.

Hi Folks
Re: Gamp Getaway Kitchen Project
Going by Ken’s current report, we have a window of opportunity with no one in the camp between the 17th Mar-22 Mar. We will have the steelwork finished and galvanized by then, it would be a good time to do some of the erection. I believe we could get most of the steel erected in that time if we get enough support. Please advertise and advise if these days suit and approximate numbers available.

On Saturday 7th March 2014,  the District Nominating Committee met to interview applicants for the position of District Governor for 2017-2018 and to appoint a Vice Governor for 2015-2016.

District Governor Murray Verso is delighted to advise that Peter Frueh from the Rotary Club of Balwyn was selected to follow DGE Julie Mason and DGN Neville John as the Governor of District 9800. Peter is currently an assistant governor and next month will lead  the GSE Team going to District 6840 in Louisiana and Mississippi.

Immediate Past District Governor Ross Butterworth was selected to be the Vice Governor during Julie Mason’s year as Governor.

In accordance with Rotary’s 2013 Manual of Procedure (13.020.8), clubs have 14 days from the date of this email to nominate a challenging candidate. If there are no challenges, Peter  will be known as the District Governor Nominee Designate until 1st July. After that date he will become the District Governor Nominee.
 
Club International Service Directors and project managers of endorsed projects in D9800 were invited to showcase their international projects as part of Australia Day celebrations at Lake Weeroona, Bendigo, an event coordinated by the Rotary Club of Bendigo Sandhurst with support from other clubs in the Goldfields cluster and Assistant Governors, Grant Hocking and Greg Noonan.
World of Difference, Seven Women and separate projects being managed by clubs were displayed, including some from Melbourne-based clubs. Past District Governor John Wigley was on hand to explain how the Rotary Foundation operates and District Governor Murray Verso also attended the function to support the initiative.
The weather was excellent and a very large crowd attended the celebrations.  In walking around the lake, all attendees passed the international projects display which was very visibly Rotary-branded.  Handcrafts and clothing from Timor Leste, Cambodia and Nepal were on sale and projects in a range of Asia/Pacific and African countries were on display. Interest and enquiries were constant, and project managers were able to explain what was being done to help needy people through each project.
Most importantly, many people were invited to contact their local Rotary club and to attend meetings.  Excellent pamphlets outlining Rotary activities and contact details for Goldfield cluster clubs had been printed for the event.  Contacts were made with several previous Rotaractors who had lost touch with the organisation but had an interest in perhaps getting involved again.  There were people who expressed a need to make a contribution to others less fortunate.  There were others whose recent circumstances had changed which has created more time for them to become involved.  We asked them, and are confident that some new members for local clubs will result from the event.
The event was really worthwhile, and has acted as a sound pilot for a similar event proposed for Melbourne’s CBD in July/August this year.  Planning for the Melbourne event is underway, and details will be advised when finalised.
