It was great to see members in their number at Wednesdays meeting with the lure of hearing from the team who returned from East Timor in late September.
We were joined by former club member Rotarian Peter Downs. Members partners Lisa Ruffell and Judy Murphy and Bernie White a member of the east Timor team.
Martin and Phil delivered the presentation including some terrific images with Doug and Lindsay providing expert commentary when needed.
It was a busy schedule for the team starting with the opening of the Kitchen which has been on ongoing project. Phil mentioned the quality of the food and Martin was able to back this up with various shots of Phil undertaking quality testing throughout the trip.
The group undertook a water project which included increasing the size pipes and adding tanks to ensure a more regular availability of water. With the expertise of the 5th team member Bernie White completed some much needed electrical work relocating electrical cables which were hanging just above head height (if your less than 5ft 6) to the more traditional running around and through walls in conduit, making a much safer environment for all.
Whilst all this was happening Martin was also showcasing his many IT skills in preparing 22 computers, installing operating systems and an office program on each ready for use. The computers where donated by Girton Grammar and sent over in the last container.
The club is extremely proud of the work that’s been completed in East Timor of the years and the current team have once again done an amazing job helping improve the lives of so many.
Thanks to Rotarian Graeme Lynas for resurrecting his Bingo Balls for the guest sergeant spot. Its amazing how 50+ little numbered balls can make so many Rotarians so nervous. With the spinning of the barrel, a little ball just might have your number on it, which then requires a 1 minute presentation on a randomly drawn topic. A game of chance (or so we thought) gives us a little insight in those whose numbers are drawn.
Whilst many have been away over the last couple of months it is imperative that IF YOU ARE ROSTERED ON for some role at our meetings that you please ensure either you are able to fulfil your roster requirements or you find a replacement prior to the meeting that can. For the raffle if you can’t make it to the rostered meeting please ensure you bring you raffle prize in one of the meetings prior and we can store it in the cupboard so it’s there when needed.
Hope you all enjoy the week and I look forward to seeing you at club forum next week.
Paul
