President's Message

Seventy seven on the footpaths to thirty eight thousand?
Read On:

Sometimes I feel like I’m standing on an archery range, catching arrows, re-flinging some; thinking, “let’s see, who could do that”;  dropping quite a few into my “I must get around to that on my home laptop sheath”; purposely dropping a few onto the grass [usually “not needed on journey” stuff from “above”]; letting a few just go through to the keeper, and pretending to not see the rest.

All in a day as President.

Rotary International History Quiz, respecting RI’s 113th birthday February 23rd.
And, “Bienvenue !!” to Victor, who has unwittingly offered Bernadette and I accommodation in Lille, in November.

The Horizons Committee invites no less than three generous Rotarians onto our Board for 2018/19.

Given the succession of experienced Directors continuing into 2018/19, your contribution will be appreciated and guided.

Those applying for Presidency 2018/19 may form an orderly queue at the bar Wednesday morning.

  • I’ve volunteered Glenn Maloney to oversee repair of our Lectern, which is languishing in our shed.
  • DGE Bronwyn Stephens will visit us informally March 21st
    • No stress.
  • Next Board Meeting April 9th
  • A thousand emails later we’ve finally organised volunteers to assist Lecturer Pam Harvey at Monash School of Rural Health, next week.
  • Heather Ridge of the Bendigo Maubisse Friendship Committee has kindly emailed to me photos of our Graeme presenting Scholarship Certificates, in Maubisse, and copy of all the notes for each student written by the indefatigable Sister Henrietta. I’ve copied one for you.
  • RCoBS Thank You Card:
    • I’ve been to Sally and Barry with my ideas.

And at DIY home:
Sanded first few boards of the merbau decking timber:
First coat of Cabot’s “Merbau” walk-on paint, looking good.
Then, lo and behold, wet with the rain this morning it’s come up a light fleshy pink !!!
Water beading okay on paint surface.
liber lignum … wood chemistry:
Serious consultations with Allan and Sue at Hume & Iser:
Uh Oh … I think it’s a step back: Sand off the new paint, back to raw timber, and do the leach-out-the-timber-tannins step with oxalic acid wash “Cabot’s Deck Wash”.  Bother !!!!

LIFE IN THE COMPUTER AGE

Chaney and Katja were on their way home from the night club one night and Chaney got pulled over by the traffic police. The officer told Chaney that he was stopped because his tail light was burned out. Chaney said, “I’m very sorry officer, I didn’t realize it was out, I’ll get it fixed right away.”

Just then Katja said, “I knew this would happen when I told you three days ago to get that light fixed.”

So the officer asked for Chaney’s driving license and after looking at it said, “Sir your license has expired.”

And again Chaney apologized and mentioned that he didn’t realize that it had expired and would take care of it first thing in the morning.

Katja said, “I told you two weeks ago that the transport authorities sent you a letter telling you that your license had expired.”

Well by this time, Chaney is a bit upset with his wife contradicting him in front of the officer, and he said in a rather loud voice, “Katja, shut your mouth!”

The officer then leaned over toward Katja and asked. “Does your husband always talk to you like that?”

Katja answered, “Only when he’s drunk.”
