Victor Saelens, Rotary Youth Exchange Student sponsored by Bendigo South, entertained us all this morning, beret, baguette and cheese as his props, flying us, with great French pride, through not only wines, champagne, regional foods and tourist meccas, but, also into current national politics, and then his immediate and extended family.

 

A competent public speaker, traveller, sailor, snow skier, hunter and soccer player, this man has ambitions in journalism and “My own show”.

 

Today is the first presentation I’ve attended wherein a baguette replaced the red laser pointer.

 

Home is Lille, voted “The most welcoming city.in France”, a district of universities and students, at “le coeur de l'europe.

 

Congratulations Bendigo South.

                Almost stranded, lonely on Woodend station, not realising that coaches had replaced rail.

                Three and a half hours at Clusters Meeting, representing Rotary Club of Bendigo Sandhurst and supporting the Polio Survivors Support Group who presented their case to the clubs.

        Monday

                10:30 meeting with President RC Kangaroo Flat.

 

        Tuesday

                End Polio Event Rotary Clubs Bendigo and Strathdale, Mayor Margaret O’Rourke as guest speaker.

        Answering my question from the floor, Margaret directed me to the Directorate of Community Wellbeing, within the CoGB, to find appropriate targets for club funding.

        Wednesday

                Our weekly meeting, and a “full-on” day chatting incessantly with very close friends visiting Bendigo from Vancouver BC.

Clusters Meeting:

        Excellent collaborative atmosphere

        Listening to comments I’m satisfied that our draft Child Safety policy is on par, and a sensible way forward.

 

The best idea I gleaned from a chat with Glenn Reilly and then clusters is that of a Horizons Committee, composed of past presidents not currently serving on our board.

 

I agreed with Alison Bacon President RC EH that Rotary Club of Bendigo Sandhurst should be paying $100.00 per month as a contribution towards

electricity costs for our two [2] sheds.

I have a copy of the full report and shall bring to the Club the concept of recognising successful local micro businesses.

Fellowship and Fun Department:

 

Kangaroo Flat Rotary Club inform us of an interesting evening for heritage and tramways fans:

 

          A fund-raising event being run by the Bendigo Trust to raise funds for the restoration of Tram No 7 which is 100 years old and needs work done on it to restore it to its former glory.  [Our ex member Wayne is Chair of Heritage Trust]

 

The event which is being held on the 3 November 2017, is a “Tram Party” where those who attend will be able to enjoy a great evening listening to live entertainment, having great conversations and getting the opportunity to eat great food supplied by the All Seasons for this event. There are only 42 seats available and Charlie at KFRC is offering them to members of Rotary first. The cost for this great event is $30 each. Drinks will be supplied on the Tram at Bar Prices.  The Tram for the party is the Tram used for the Blues Event, (Blue H car Tram). Tram leaves the Bendigo Depot at 6.00 PM, running continuously along the tram routes and finishes at 10.00 PM.
