Very busy meeting this week. We welcomed David Lavender and his mother Laura as well as John Forbes (our guest speaker) and Daryl Jones (John’s driver).
Well done to the BBEA committee for a well run event last Friday. Gerard House was recognised with a Paul Harris Fellow at the beginning of the night - Congratulations Gerard.
Pat Sheehan was presented with a 3rd Sapphire Paul Harris Fellow today for his ongoing donations to the Rotary Foundation. Congratulations Pat.
Get well wishes to Danny. Doug let the members know that Danny is currently in Royal Adelaide Hospital waiting for surgery. Hope the surgery went well Danny and you are back with us soon.
We haven’t had any response to Patti Cotton’s request for some-one to help her with the knitting project. Please talk to Patti to get more info about what will be involved.
Doug Lougoon presented a certificate of appreciation to the Club from the Bendigo Maubisse Friendship Committee. He provided the Committee with a report on the Kitchen project we have been involved in and Patti updated them on the knitting project.
Stan and Martin are still trying to get the rosters organised for the swap meet. If you haven’t got yourself rostered yet, catch up with Stan or Martin. We need all hands on deck for this week-end.

David Lavender gave a report on his experience with the World Challenge. David is in Year 10 at Girton.
David spoke to the club before he went on this challenge and today he provided feedback about his experience and the impact it had on him – a life changing experience. Well done David.
Rob did a sergeant session today to raise money for the Blue Ribbon Foundation. I don’t think he missed too many people!
Martin Ruffell introduced our guest speaker today – John Forbes. John spoke about his journey with the Blue Ribbon Foundation. After the 1988 murders, John asked – what can be done to help the families? A fundraiser was held that raised $88,000. After this, a committee was formed to continue fundraising – the Tynan-Eyre Foundation. This evolved into the Blue Ribbon Foundation and John was Chairman for 22 years. He only stepped down due to poor health.
3 Reminders:
1) no meeting next week – Bendigo Cup
2) the Goldfields Cluster Rotary Foundation Dinner on 25th Nov.  Invitations have been sent out, so please reply and pay prior to the dinner. Evelyn is co-ordinating our bookings. The meeting on 26th Nov has been cancelled.
3) the next fellowship night at Pat’s pub is Nov 4th
Have a great 2 weeks and see you all at our next meeting on Nov 5th – Club Forum.
Cheers,
Cathie

Chester says to Earl "I'll send my dog out to see if there are any ducks out in the pond.
If there aren't many ducks out there, I'm not going hunting".
So he sends the dog out to the pond. The dog comes back and barks twice.

Chester says "Well I'm not going to go out. He only saw two ducks out there". Earl says "You're going to take the dog's barks for the truth?"
Earl doesn't believe it, so he goes to look for himself.
When he gets back he says "I don't believe it. There really are only two ducks out there! Where did you get that dog?"
Chester says "Well, I got him from the breeder up the road. If you want one, you can get one from him".

So Earl goes to the breeder and says he wants a dog like the one his friend Chester has. The breeder obliges and Earl brings the dog home, tells it to go out and look for ducks.  Minutes later the dog returns shaking its head with a stick in its mouth.
Outraged, Earl takes the dog back to the breeder and says "This dog is a fraud. I want my money back!" The breeder asks Earl what the dog did.
So Earl tells him that when he sent the dog out to look for ducks, it came back shaking its head with a stick in its mouth.

The breeder says "Earl, dogs can't talk. He was trying to tell you there are more ducks out there than you can shake a stick  at".
