Co-President's report

Hopefully you had a nice day off on Bendigo Cup Day. Some of you may even found a good excuse to attend the races and not having to work in the garden.

We look forward to hearing more from our members during some of our club meetings.

Thank you Geoff for presenting at our next meeting.

Also, as mentioned in last bulletin, our AGM will be held on 22 November. Please consider the opportunity to put your hand up for one of the positions.

Our club has been invited to place a wreath on 11 November.

Adrian and Ray

Cluster Foundation Dinner

To all Goldfield Cluster Club members and friends,

I am pleased to advise that the Cluster Foundation Dinner will be now be conducted on the evening of Friday 8th December 2023 at the Lakeside Hotel, 286 Napier Street, Bendigo.
The originally proposed date of 30th November clashed with other important Rotary events hence the change of date.

More details and a flyer advertising the event will be forthcoming shortly.

Kind Regards
PP Wayne W Smith

ENERGY Breakthrough - Volunteers to Judge

At Wednesdays club forum John Canon spoke about the request for Rotarian that might be interested in assisting with judging the teams at this years Energy Breakthrough at Maryborough on Wednesday 22nd Nov and/or Friday 24th Nov.

Running for over 30 years and part of the educational value is that each team needs to do a 20 minute presentation about their campaign. As well as talking about their vehicle, they need to talk about team preparation, the environment and working with the community plus more. It is a great exhibition of the skills of our local students.

Rotarians are invited to part of our judging team for this section of the event which involves judging up to 10 teams starting at 9:30 through to about 4:30 so you would need to be in Maryborough before 9 am for the briefing.

Depending on the numbers there maybe an opportunity to car pool, Rotarian Nevelle Sharpe is a keen member of our judging team.

If you are interested or have any question Energy Breakthrough coordinator Laurie Preston 0404308226, would love to hear from you, he can also provide you with details on how to log in to the Volunteer system.

Castlemaine Rotary Truck Show: 25 & 26 November

Castlemaine is considered one of Australia’s premier country Truck Shows. Now in its 35th year, this year’s show is shaping up to be bigger than ever. It is also renowned for its family atmosphere. Children U16 are admitted free and the entertainment and rides are free. There is on ground catering and those who are mobility challenged can also enjoy a trishaw tour of the ground.

Live music all weekend will feature multi-award winning Country Music Singer and Songwriter, Craig Lloyd, whose singles have topped the charts in 2023. Crowd favourites, Peter Coad & The Coad Sisters and The Jim Hermel Band, will also be returning. A special feature on stage will be from 5 – 8pm on the Saturday night with a bar and food vans operating.
Gates open at 12 noon on Saturday and 10.00am on Sunday. Tickets are $15 per adult. U16 children free.

Book Launch and Fundraiser
PP Larrie Winzar from Rotary Bendigo, has written a book 'Bliss' and all profits are being donated to Rotary projects that enhance the lives of women and girls locally, regionally and globally.

'Bliss' is a self-coaching book inspiring people of all ages and stages in their careers, and their life, to follow their bliss. This workbook fills a gap... it shares tools and strategies, questions, and exercises as well as motivation and wisdom based on Larrie's 35 year’s experience as a Career, Life &
Protirement Coach.

The Bendigo book launch is on Sunday, 19 November, 4-6pm, at Rotary Gateway Park in Kangaroo Flat.  Additional books will be on sale at the launch for $30 and there will be plenty of seating available. Fabulous entertainment from Alli and Andrew Watts and delicious catering by Bendigo Inner Wheel.

Regional Council election results

Clubs throughout Zone 8 have had their say, and the results of the first Zone 8 Regional Council election are now in! These roles will come into play from January 1, 2024:

Chair-Elect: Tony Heyward, RC of Tawa, New Zealand (D9940)

Portfolio Lead: Major Fundraising and Grants: Dr Peter Rogers AM, RC of Melbourne, VIC, Australia (D9800)

Portfolio Lead: Membership: Andy Rajapakse, RC of Burleigh Heads, QLD, Australia (D9640)

Portfolio Lead: Service Projects and Programs: Madhumita Bishnu, E-Club of Melbourne, VIC, Australia (D9800)

Rotaract Nominee: Eeshwar Rajagopalan, Rotaract Club of Subiaco/RC of Elizabeth Quay, WA, Australia (D9423)

As previously indicated, the following roles received one eligible application each, so candidates were therefore automatically elected:

Portfolio Lead: Public Image and Partnerships: Neil McWhannell, RC of Wahroonga, NSW, Australia (D9685)

Portfolio Lead: Learning and Development: Euan Miller, RC of Norwood, SA, Australia (D9510)

The applicants for the above roles were deemed to have the necessary skills and experience to complete their duties.

The role of Portfolio Lead: Diversity, Equity and Inclusion did not receive any eligible applications. A suitable candidate for the role will be selected once the Regional Council is in place.

The fifteen-day objection period for the Regional Council election has now begun and will end at midday on 15 November 2023 Australian Eastern Daylight Time (AEDT).

You can read an outline of the objection process here, which includes a description of what constitutes a valid objection. Please review this document carefully before submitting an objection.

Clubs can submit any objections to the election results or process by emailing Zone8Elections@Rotary.org.

You will receive an email confirming the results of the election once the objection period closes. Thank you to all clubs who voted in the Regional Council election!
