Co-President's report
Co-presidents report for 26 June, 2025
We were very pleased to welcome as our guest speaker this week, Daniel Robinson, the manager of our excellent venue, Pepper Green Farm.  Daniel has lived a most interesting life prior to this point, and this seems to have resulting in him finally arriving at this much-needed and highly effective, not-for-profit organisation.  His passion to ensure the ongoing success of the Farm and all who are associated with it shone through in Daniels’ presentation.  We hope our club is able to use the very good facilities there and the warm welcome we experience each week, at the same providing tangible support, for a long time to come.
In excellent news, Stewart Annan has put himself forward as our President-Elect, ie, to take the reins after the term of Allie and Cathie finishes next year.  We would like to congratulate Stew for doing this, as his action now gives us certainty in club leadership for at least the next two years.  Like us two have experienced, we are certain Stew will enjoy the whole-hearted support and friendship of club members in his presidential year.
Doug Lougoon gave us a run-down on our upcoming commitment at the Sheep & Wool Show.  We will be responsible for the initial marking-out of all sites, both indoors & outdoors, as well as bump-in and bump-out duties.  There is also a commitment to have a small “roving” presence for the duration of the show just to make sure that the event runs smoothly.  It’s a good opportunity to show our club in a good light, and Rotary in general, as we support this important event for Bendigo.  Please respond as generously as you can to the roster that Doug sent around on Tuesday night.  If we all pitch in as much as we can, it will share the workload around, be enjoyable, and a very good fundraiser for future activities and projects.
As this is our last report for this year, we would very much like to take this opportunity to thank all club members for their friendship and wonderful support of us for the last two years.  This is a great Rotary club, full of interesting, active, innovative, extremely friendly, hard-working volunteers.  We are both proud to be members of such a terrific group of people who give generously of their time, skills and effort to try to give others in our community and elsewhere a helping hand if we possibly can.  We know this will continue with Allie and Cathie as our co-presidents, and we look forward to next year under their leadership.
With our best wishes and thanks to you all once again.
Adrian and Ray.
Guest Speaker- Daniel Robinson, Manager of Pepper Green Farm

Daniel is overseeing the transition to the partnership between Pepper Green Farm and Wise Employment which has merged with Access. He has a keen interest in the outdoors and before coming to Pepper Green Farm he coordinated world challenges for young people in areas such as Africa, Nepal and India. He has also been the Camp Manager for DOXA. Daniel has worked at La Trobe University and has been involved with the delivery of Certificate 3 & 4 Community Service courses for Access.

Pepper Green Farm started operating around 2007. It was interesting to note that our own Kathryn Mackenzie was involved at that time. Pepper Green Farm provides supported employment for 54 people and has a staff of 27. Work includes the operation of the Cafe, catering, car wash and detailing and horticulture. Daniel is pleased with the partnerships which have been set up with Bendigo Health and Rotary. There are a significant number of organisations which use Pepper Green Farm for catering.

Daniel is exploring many exciting plans for the future development of Pepper Green Farm. The Chinese market garden has a kiln which is currently buried. This has the potential to increase the number of visitors as does the opening up of a tram stop in Thunder Street. It was wonderful to hear that Pepper Green Farm has been nominated for the Bendigo Business Excellence Awards in the category of diverse and inclusive workplaces. Pepper Green Farm is a NDIS provider and is subject to regulations such as staff ratios and worker screening checks.

Daniel spoke openly about the ongoing financial sustainability of Pepper Green Farm. Although the operation is not for profit the enterprise needs to run at 116% to cover the backend costs associated with HR and payroll. There are a number of casually employed supervisors who can step in when staff are away. Daniel shared some of the very positive feedback offered by some of the supported employees. They love engaging with the community and look forward to opportunities such as their Art Exhibition which is currently on display at Dudley House. We thank Daniel for being our guest. It is most fulfilling that the Club has been able to partner with Pepper Green Farm.
