Our guest speaker today was Alex Frank. Alex sang at Australia Day this year.
The performer in her shone through when the computer didn’t perform as it was meant to!!
How do you become a singer/performer? Alex took us on her journey to becoming a performer – as opposed to a singer only. Her main joy is performing in musical theatre and more recently she has discovered she enjoys teaching singing and musical theatre. She is finding that her students inspire her to be better.
To be successful as a performer you need to be committed to keep trying – a lesson she learned very early in her journey. She also had to develop skills to survive in the industry – especially how to cope with rejection.
Alex has also learnt that she needs to be able to create her own work to help create job opportunities. Performers never have a stable job and need to be flexible with their work choices. She has developed a show that she performs in Melbourne.
Thanks Alex for the insight into a performer’s wold.
Paul Henderson presented the final voting paper for the Innovative and Flexible Clubs project. Voting options were circulated at the meeting and an email has been distributed to members. We need every member to vote.
Graeme Lynas presented the background to the Central Australia Schoolies project and the progress they have made with the planning.
When the plan has been completed it will be presented to the Board.
Lindsay Murphy visited the RC of Milton Ulladulla recently (look it up) and bought back a money box to help raise funds for the Eradication of Polio campaign. It will be kept on the cashier desk over the next few weeks for people to put share cash in.
Thanks to Graeme Lynas for starting things off.
The market committee have been doing a fantastic job with the biggest response yet from stall holders.
John Cannon is doing a lot of work getting the Rotary display tent ready. This will be beside the BBQ. He needs more old copies of Rotary Downunder to hand out to interested people. If you can help him out, let him know.
Paul Kirkpatrick reminded members that Leon Scott is needing more help with the Camp Getaway kitchen development. Contact Paul if you can help out as they would like to know who is coming to help with catering.
Remember there is NO meeting next week. See most of you at the market or BBQ on Good Friday.
Have a good week. Cathie

Monday, 20 April.  Ross Noble concert, Ulumbarra Theatre, 8.00 pm.
Another night of fellowship & fun.
Our club has reserved 40 excellent seats (upper stalls) at the new theatre, to see UK comedian, Ross Noble.  27 tickets have already been sold, at the discounted price of $43.00 each.  We need to know by Thursday 19 March, if other Rotarians or friends intend to go to the concert.  At that point, we need to inform the Capital Theatre so that tickets not required can be released back to the general public.
Please contact either Ray Carrington 0417 502 349, or John Cannon 0419 522418, to book tickets & pay prior to Thursday 19 March.
