Today we welcomed Carol McCooke and Nancy Wyatt from Friends of the Bendigo Art Gallery and Peter Young and Sue Featherstone from Radius Disability Services.
Visiting Rotarians were our ADG Greg Noonan, Geoff Adcock from Eaglehawk and Tim Connors from Next Generation.
Next Gen have produced a calendar with Lost Bendigo portraying historical photos of Bendigo. Tim bought along some calendars for sale (which were all sold – thanks everyone). They would make a great Christmas gift, so if anyone else woud like one, contact Next Generation.
Greg reminded everyone that the early bird registration for the District Conference closes on Dec 15th.
The AGM was held this am. Three Director positions are still vacant. Could members please consider taking a position on the Board and talk to Paul Henderson if you are prepared to give it a go. Paul wasn’t able to be at he meeting today, so he will introduce next year’s Board more formally next week.

Club Forum Reports:
Community Service – Rob thanked Stan and Martin for their work on the committee and all the members who attended over the week-end. Martin is still looking for some tags that haven’t been handed in. If you still have yours, please get it to Martin.
Friday 12th Dec we are joining Bendigo South to cater for the Council Xmas breakfast at the Town Hall. Rob needs 12 volunteers, so please see him id you are able to help.
The market committee still needs helpers. Talk to Evelyn or Rob if you can help this group. The markets have been a good fundraiser in the past few years and it would be good if we can keep this going.
Vocational Service – Peter has the final figures from the BBEA. There was a profit of $17,000 (the 3 bursaries are in this figure). One bursary has been applied for and will be presented to the Board on Monday.
Peter has been getting feedback on the various aspects of the event and it has been very positive.
Ray reported back on the Foundation Dinner. For those that could hear the speakers, they were worth listening to – very passionate about their roles in developing programs to promote peace in the community.
Ray and John have had a meeting with the events manager to provide feedback on the issues with the poor sound quality and noise in the area.
The amount raised to be donated to Foundation was $1600.
Patti finished a very busy day speaking about the knitting project. Our guests today have been very important partners in this project and it wouldn’t be happening without their support.
The project is 6 years old now and Friends of the Art Gallery and Radius Disability Services have been supporting the project from the beginning.
Patti sends out 2 newsletters a year to the knitters that are spread across Victoria and southern NSW. The first newsletter provides details of the requirements for the year and the 2nd one includes the annual report from the Maubisse Friendship Group to let the knitters know they are part of a much bigger picture.
The project has been asked to provide something that will encourage the mothers to bring their babies into the clinics to be immunized, so they are making up sets of baby clothes to be given to the mothers. The sets include a hat, singlet, jumper, socks and blanket.
All the knitting goes to East Timor in containers with other supplies for the area and so far 100,000 items have been distributed.
When they have knitting that cannot be used in Maubisse, it is donated to other organisations – Giann Centre, prem baby units at the Bendigo Hospital and St John of God Hospital, Red Cross, Ambulance Service and the Emergency Department at the Bendigo Hospital.
The project is moving into a new space that has been provided by Peter Young at Radius. Patti expressed a huge thank you to Peter for continuing to support this project. A container will be kept outside the building to store the knitting until it is sent.
Thanks Patti. This is a wonderful project that has such a positive impact on so many people is many different ways.

Friday the 12th of December we will once again be catering for the City of Greater Bendigo Christmas Breakfast. Set up 6am serve 7.30am to 9am. At least twelve members needed. We will be assisting RC of Bendigo South.
The club Christmas party is this Sunday the 7th of December at Camp Getaway. Commencing at 4pm.

I recently went to my doctor. After two visits and exhaustive tests, she said I was doing fairly well for my age.
A little concerned about that comment, I couldn't resist asking her, 'Do you think I'll live to be 90?'
She asked, 'Do you smoke tobacco, or drink beer, wine or hard liquor?'
'Oh no,' I replied. 'I'm not doing drugs, either!'
Then she asked, 'Do you eat rib-eye steaks and barbecued ribs?'
'I said, 'Not much... My former doctor said that all red meat is very unhealthy!'
'Do you spend a lot of time in the sun, like playing golf, boating, sailing, hiking, or bicycling?'
'No, I don't,' I said.
