It was great to welcome some more members back from their winter break and to welcome in Spring.

Monday saw the departure of Doug, Martin, Lindsay and Phil to Timor for 2 weeks to work on a water project, computers for the region and the official launch of the “meals on Heals” Kitchen.

Sunday th 30th Rotarians were joined by students from the Weeroona  college and their parents for the catering at federation Picnic.   We were kept busy right through till the 1:30 gate closure, and it was another great event.   Our thanks go to the Weeroona College student s and family  helpers who ensured we had enough staff to keep the crowd fed and  queues to a minimum.   We will continue to improve the process and thanks to the Rotarians who provided feedback this week club forum.

We now have an official  request from the Valentines Day ball committee to support the ball for 2016.  The proposal is to run the event on February 13, 2016 and for each club to provde $500 donation to the Ball to help with the fundraising efforts.   From what I what I understand attendees cover costs through ticket price and any profit would come from donations or sponsors much the same as last year. They aim to make 17 to 24k to go to Bendigo health Real unit for the purchase of a dialysis machine.

There is still time to book for the Rotary District 9800 Foundation grants seminar in Bendigo on Monday the 14th of September 6pm for 6:30pm at Kangaroo Flat’s Gataway function centre.  If anyone would like to go and Join Ray Carrington please let me know Wednesday so I can get the RSVP into district.

The District conference gets closer every day and the conference organisers would like to hear from any rotarians who would like  to help or perhaps take the lead in the areas of
   Sponsorship
   Functions - Friday night Welcome function and the two Saturday functions
   Entertainment
   Golf Day.
Please let me know or contact Mark and Leonie Weragoda (when they return form Sri Lanka in the next couple of weeks) so we can get your details to district.

Don’t forget to note the 30th September  in your diary for a possible surprise evening event, just trying to finalise arrangements and hope to have more on Wednesday.

Help Hats Help Heads on World Mental Health Day

Hat Day is Australian Rotary Health’s national fundraising and awareness day for mental health research, celebrated each year on World Mental Health Day - Friday October 9, 2015. Since the inaugural Hat Day in 2011, Hat Day has claimed two Guinness World Records (most people wearing paper hats & most people wearing red hats). Hat Day recently launched a new logo, as well as a new website with social fundraising features.

Hat Day has acquired a number of high profile ambassadors in its five years of running, including actors Elle Dawe, Matt Lee and Pauly Fenech. Most recently, we were joined by Dr Happy – Dr Tim Sharp, Chief Happiness Officer at the Happiness Institute. Since 2014, Hat Day has also partnered with the ABC to promote mental health research in Australia.

Rotary Clubs have been our biggest supporters to date, and with your help we are reaching an increasing number of organisations who are hosting Hat Day events in their workplaces. This year, clubs in Hobart, Sydney and Melbourne will be hosting corporate launch events with high profile guests and speakers, including Dr Happy, sharing insights on happiness.

Some other great Hat Day events and initiatives have included:
  • Trivia nights – many clubs have held successful events using our trivia host kit available upon request;
  • A pirate-themed river cruise;
  • Taking posters and collection boxes to local business receptions;
  • The Melbourne Cup Milliner’s cocktail and showcase evening;
  • A photo-booth in Pitt Street Mall, Sydney;
  • Stalls at local shopping centres or community events (some with cupcakes);
  • Official fundraising at train stations;
  • The annual Australian Rotary Health Wine, Food & Race Day.

What will your Club do? Register your Club for Hat Day at www.hatday.com.au.

Bill loved to write. He wrote articles, compositions, poems, anything he could think of he wrote.
Although he tried desperately to have his hard work published he was never able to find anyone interested.
It was after a year of not seeing one of his friends that he bumped into him at a supermarket.
Description: https://ssl.gstatic.com/ui/v1/icons/mail/images/cleardot.gif“Harry am I glad to see you! Do you know that my readership doubled since I last saw you!?”
“Congratulations!” Said Harry, barely glancing up from the meat he was examining,
“nobody told me that you got married!”

My boss called me into his office today.
“We both know you’re not the brightest spark here, Simon,” he said, “but over the last 5 years you’ve never been sick
or late and I think you deserve a reward. So, how does a brand new car sound?”
“Vroom! Vroom!” I replied.
