President's Message

Notes from President George

Amidst the maelstrom of Rotary flotsam and jetsam that surges to and fro around the busy boats, presidents’ elect at the helm,

it’s sometimes difficult to hold that sextant still and line up our goals.

This month let’s look to the Rowcobs New Year.

We’ve a Board Meeting Monday June 5th to, inter alia, review our attempts to “simplify” our committees structure, and members’ roles.

I’ll circulate to members only, a list of proposed positions for 2017/18 and invite each member to volunteer as they wish, according to enthusiasm, interest, availability, skillsets and the like. Volunteering for one than one position is de rigeur.

My ambition is to “have us, the members, run the club from within”, respecting good ideas we consider, “from without”.

Meantime:

Andy Reaburn was a bit of a different guest speaker, Wednesday, reporting feedback following our pecuniary contribution towards an Australian Volunteer Coast Guard boat. [I hope I’m as fit as he looks at his age]. Andy is active in the VF5 Flotilla at Lake Eppalock.

District Training Assembly:

Liz Bannon and Bruce McLure from RC KF kept me company to and from Melton. I attended the Plenary; Imagery & Marketing; and, President Elect sessions. Picked up a few points; met some interesting enthusiastic young Rotarians; and, “got in the ear” of the less fortunate. Ann Peace handed me a copy of the Australian Rotary Health Facts 2017 Booklet.

Our chef célèbre Rob was at it again, conducting the catering team at Camp Getaway for MUNA 2017. It’s worth volunteering just to hear the kitchen gossip.

Evelyn is back and we’re trying to coordinate all players for an Easter Markets bubbles and nibbles debrief at Ev’s home.

Ray Carrington reports that the plumber has done his bit and the concreters are about to form up and pour the slab for

The Shed at California Gully.

Peter Elliott and team are documenting our assets and lining up their visit at AFS to kick off our new QuickBooks system.

Wednesday May 31 we’re at DOXA, at the previous Marist Brothers’ College site, 7 AM for 7:30, brekky for a reddy.

Rotary have changed the rules with respect to membership census, from July 1, to June 30, effective June 30 2017.

I’ll ask our Membership Director to have a chat to those members we rarely see of a Wednesday.

Martin Ruffell is still in touch with Weeroona College re those ideas of us assisting the College deliver breakfasts on campus five mornings a week during term. Rome was not built … …

Next weekend I’m having a go at myrotary courtesy of a webinar run by Caroline Ord, projected to Golden Square Primary School campus, and, Greg’s agenda list for the Clusters’ meeting gives me good vibes for Goldfields future.

And, quietly beavering away in the background is our RCoBS representative on the Bendigo Maubisse Friendship Committee [that’s me], working with Rod Flavell, and winning, towards effective dental services in Maubisse. And, the committee is on the look out for stacks of stacking chairs, for the “August” container run.

Looks like Winter is here … Maximum for the week: 14C.

Enjoy your unique Rotary

G for George

Groovin the Moo 2015, you can see how we have improved operations.
