AGM 2024
The Annual General Meeting of the Rotary Club of Bendigo Sandhurst Inc. will be held at 7:30AM on Wednesday 27 November 2024 at PepperGreen Farm, North Bendigo.

The AGM for 2023-24 will precede our normal breakfast meeting that day, and takes only about 10 minutes.   It will not interfere with a Guest Speaker, if any.  As a quorum of members is needed and if you cannot attend, please call in on Zoom, or provide a proxy.

It is legally required that all Incorporated organisations such as ours hold their AGM by the end of November each year and for the Secretary to advise Consumer Affairs (CAV) by the end of December that the club has complied.
Members will receive an email with a copy of the minutes of last year's AGM.  The Agenda of this year's meeting will be similar.
John Harkin
Co-President's report
What a fun club meeting we had. Lots of laughter and interaction. Doug set the scene in his unique way as the chair of the day. Glad that we have sorted out the current Zoom link to the meeting and great to see co-president Ray and Toni joining from Tassie and Martin Ruffell from SA.

Kathryn Mackenzie presented on her involvement with TAC as part of her work (see Jim’s notes about the presentation).

Thank you to all who helped out with the BBQ at the Swap Meet. It was a warm and dusty day, but we survived and can look back on a successful weekend.

Graeme Lynas has offered to be the contact person for Donations-in-Kind. Thank you very much, Graeme.

The 60th birthday celebration of the Rotary Club of Rochester was very well attended. Many clubs were represented, and the Shire Hall was packed. Highlights included the induction of four new members (thereby more than doubling membership of the club) and celebrating achievements of this small club. Life membership was awarded to Heather Watson and a PHF to Eric Bish. Congratulations Rochester. You are a true inspiration. (See photos below).

Our next meeting will include a brief AGM as well as a guest speaker. Please attend in person or by Zoom so that we will have the required quorum. We look forward to seeing you then.

Co-Presidents Ray and Adrian.

Late breaking news: Thanks to all involved in the Toyota golf day. Graeme reports we fielded the A team of golfers as well as the A team on the barbecue! Well done everyone. (Photos below).
Guest speaker - Kathryn Mackenzie
In 2017 Kathryn moved to Echuca where she was the CEO of Echuca/Moama Tourism.
In recent times Kathryn has been working on a pilot project with the Transport Accident Commission (TAC). The pilot project was partly in response to the 2022 road toll (295), the second deadliest year in the last fifteen. It was disappointing to note that the road toll this year is already 250. This is the  highest at this stage of the year since 2009.

The evidence based project aims to focus on the risk factors which contribute to road accidents. It is clear that proper preparation for travel, driving time and regular breaks are key preventative factors  Around 20% of accidents are caused by driver fatigue. Driving at night should be minimised as far as possible. Proper preparation includes making allowances at times such as school pick up and drop off.

Kathryn has been able to make very positive connections with Tourism Visitor Centres in promoting the messages of the project. In many ways Tourism Visitor Centres have become important ambassadors for road safety. Promotional materials include activities for children and information about the location of stop off points around the state. Colourful and engaging promotional material has been prepared for display in Tourism Centres.

It's wonderful that Kathryn has had the opportunity to apply her skills and experience in the promotion of such an important message. It's a delight to welcome Kathryn back to our club and we thank her for her very engaging presentation.

Invitation: Stop the Violence, End the Silence
Dear Rotarians,
In our ongoing commitment to end Domestic and Family Violence, the Rotary Club of Bendigo has been running the Stop the Violence, End the Silence advertorial on KLFM since July 2024. Through this campaign, we aim to foster Respectful Relationships in our community, promote mental wellbeing, and support safety for all.

As part of a multi nation campaign of action 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, our club is proud to support the launch of The Future is in Our Hands. This powerful initiative, featuring quotes from male community leaders and students at Camp Hill Primary School on the theme of “Respect is...,” will be displayed at the Pennyweight Outdoor Story Gallery in Pennyweight Lane, Bendigo.

We invite all members who are able to attend to join us for this meaningful event, wearing your Rotary-branded shirt. If possible, please add a touch of purple, the colour Rotary has chosen to symbolize our advocacy against domestic violence.
