This weeks report bought to you be PP Cathie Miller.
The AGM was held this week. Conor still needs a Director and President Elect.
The team so far is:
President - Conor Cunningham
President Elect – vacant
Treasurer – Phil Harris
Secretary – Geoff Michell
Directors – Adrian Schoo, Martin Ruffell, George Waters, Lindsay Murphy.
Congratulations to the incoming team.
Our guest speaker this week was Bridgette McDougall. Bridgette is the project officer for the Bendigo Council Organics Waste Project.
Bridgette gave some background information on the need to change how we manage our waste and the costs of disposing of our rubbish.
The last available cell at the Eaglehawk landfill has just been opened. When this is filled, the rubbish will need to be transported the Patho (over 2 hours from Bendigo) which will mean an additional cost to the rate payers.
The current trial participants have been provided with the organic waste bin, a kitchen caddy and compostable bin liners. These bin liners compost in 30 days and are a bright green colour.
For the trial, each bin (rubbish, recycling and organic) is being collected fortnightly. Participants have been encouraged to feed back issues to the project team and a survey will go out shortly to try to get as much information as possible about the impacts of the trial – both negative and positive.
The organic material is being transported to the nearest organic recycling depot which is in Stanhope. The end product is sold for fertiliser. Lindsay can attest to the effectiveness of it as he has purchased some for his paddocks.
Thanks Bridgette’s for a very interesting and informative presentation.
Paul will be back next week. Please consider the vacant positions on the Board – especially the President Elect.
Have a great week. Cathie
