Visit to La Trobe University Health Sciences Faculty
On Wednesday morning, we visited the faculty of Health Sciences at La Trobe University. It was a joint club visit with Bendigo South Rotary club. We were treated to a very interesting and informative overview of the University’s history and plans for the future regarding the various disciplines studied in the faculty. Thanks very much to Jim Rolfe for arranging this most enjoyable visit for us.
As he always does so well, Jim will expand further on what we saw and learnt.
Bendigo Bank Community Bank 25th birthday celebrations
Later on Wednesday, members of the club operated a highly visible and successful lunchtime barbecue for the Bendigo Bank’s Community Bank division.
Each year, the Bendigo Bank brings representatives from its Australia-wide Community Bank to Bendigo for training and networking purposes. This year marked 25 years of its community banking services, and we were asked if we could operate a barbeque lunch for the attendees – around 500 to 600 or so, as it eventually turned out. We did, thanks to the efforts of our barbequemeister and chief organizer, Kevin Reade, who put the project together.
The Bank provided all the food and consumables, while we provided the labour on the day. The diners were looking for lunch a bit earlier than we were led to believe, but our members were up to the challenge, and all went well. It was pretty well flat out for a couple of hours; many Bank people remarked how appreciative they were of our efforts and the quality of the food we cooked.
Several people told us they were also Rotarians, and how good it was to see Rotary in action at such a high-profile event. Apart from that, it was also gratifying for us later on to be able to make a meaningful donation to Foodshare. The Bank generously donated all leftover bread, sausages, coleslaw, onions, etc, to us, with the knowledge that we were going to make Foodshare the beneficiary.
It was a most enjoyable event for those who were able to help on the day, and it lifted Rotary’s profile as a bonus.
