Into our last of the winter months, only 31 days left until we Spring into it!!
A special thank you to Brian Hinneburg for letting us in on his big tips to better photography. Obviously, many hours of patience and skill resulted in some brilliant pictures.
Following our club meeting last week we had a Meeting with the council bodies about the 203 Easter Festival Rotary Market relocation map, with Rob, Kev, Bruce and Ted on zoom. Maps are being reviewed in consultation with them and Occupational health and safety issues re the Bendigo Trams. Further meetings are planned at the end of August.
On Friday we had an informal social catch up with the Cluster Presidents the AG and DG Elect, at Pat’s pub. A great night was had by all, 12 in attendance. Some issues were discussed openly and further planning for My Rotary education workshop was locked in for Mid-August. The idea of combining to work as one in some areas is growing.
Sunday saw the sun shining for the National Tree Day at Huntly. Ken Beasley President of Northern Landcare had extended an invitation to our club through Stew. About 150 people, attended and almost 6,000 trees and grasses were planted. A good opportunity to network and chat with Ken and Trevor Strauch.

Glenn Maloney- overseas, celebrating with his family in England.
Evelyn Lehmann- double celebration with your PHF as well.
Doug Lougoon- maybe on the golf course, with a whole in one??
Kevin Reade- another trip planned in the heavenly van.
John Harkin- who would believe it, the big 70!! and a nice pick up of the raffle prize too.

There was some lively discussion centreing on club business, items of interest and personal food for thought at the club forum. A summary is included below:
Rob represented the Club at the recent visit of the Ambassador for the Ukraine. The ambassador expressed his appreciation for Bendigo's expressions of solidarity. He was obviously aware that the Bushmaster is manufactured in Bendigo.
The Honour Boards are being updated and we are exploring the possibility of them appearing on the rolling screen at each meeting.
Judy outlined the merits of drawing up a medical power of attorney. A medical power of attorney advocates for the person and has the final say regarding treatment according to stated wishes. Judy has plenty of information on this and all the forms and explanations are available through the Office of the Public Advocate.
Brian shared with members items from his photographic collection. In doing so he explained the importance of light, the rule of thirds, leading lines and the vanishing point. This was very valuable because with the advent of digital technology we are all potential photographers. Brian noted that "belly button height" (he couldn't be accused of using too much technical jargon) was the best position to take a photo because it shows the right proportions. Perhaps we shouldn't have thrown out our old box brownies! Of particular interest were the late afternoon photos taken from Big Hill. Brian was able to point out the lights of Melbourne and Geelong. The photograph of his friend's shadow on the rock was a nice variation which we could all have a go at. We thank Brian for sharing his passion and interest with us.
The Federation Picnic is an annual event at Marong featuring vintage vehicles of all types including cars, tractors, motor bikes, caravans etc. The Club caters for this event each year. The date for this year is Sunday August 28th. Kevin has managed to reserve a very strategic position for the barbecue. We can watch the passing parade while we cook.
Postponement of Industry Visit to Thales (July 28th)
Unfortunately the second visit to Thales scheduled for July 28th has had to be postponed to a date to be fixed. The surge in covid cases has resulted in staff shortages. Thales remain committed to engaging with the community in this way and has undertaken to reschedule our visits as soon as possible.
