Bulletin 1 RCOBS (Jul 09, 2017)

On this Irish misty Saturday, I’m reflecting on what an enjoyable evening at The Metropolitan for our ChangeOver last night as I contemplate my car smelling like a wet sheep after the session at the off-leash dog park early, before the mandatory Bendigo Coffee Co cappuccino.

Maintaining our club “transparency” I’ve separately emailed the full text of my Vision For 2017/18 to our members who were not able to attend.

And, for all our other “addressees” I include excerpts below:

Otherwise, enjoy the school holidays; do turn up to our board meeting Monday evening if so committed; and we’re at The Bridge Wednesday morning. [Which reminds me, I’ve yet to find a volunteer to stand in for Martin at the clusters Youth Services meeting, Monday evening, at The Coffee Club café]

“Thank you to the 2016/17 Club Board and District Governor Neville John for permitting me to take hold of the tiller prematurely back in February.

And a special mention to Immediate Past President Paul Henderson, ever the calm professional mentor, and editor of our Annual Report available tonight as a paper document, and on ClubRunner.

My vision for 2017/18 is to work with a cohesive group of energetic, generous, no-nonsense, transparent, dedicated, mischievous, skilled, professional volunteers.

Membership

With respect to Membership I want to:

1. With Rotary International, Review our Brand and Image

Still Robust Honourable and Respectful

But also, Refreshing Welcoming and Challenging

2. Acquire Electronic communication skills, and,

Learn to use those skills

3. Reduce the financial cost of membership

My vision is to reduce the financial cost of membership, utilising our Business Income Stream of funds from the street markets wherein the official Terms and Conditions for stall holders state that some funds will be used in-house to ‘run’ the club.

WHY ?

Rotarians and their families and friends generously contribute resources and personal energy in a multitude of ways.

There's a traditional culture of exhorting Rotarians to donate money above mandatory fees and dues.

The days of the Rotary I met in Bendigo, in 1962, 55 years ago, as a club for the financially affluent, socially privileged, and elite are, I believe, in a word, historical.

If a Rotarian wishes to donate beyond mandatory, fees and dues, that’s their personal and generous decision.

· I want to confidently invite new members, quoting minimal mandatory fees and dues.

· I want to encourage members to attend Rotary training, and District Conference.

· I need to attract members to our board.

As RC’s go, we are a vibrant young club now sitting at a nice number of 40 members.

We are a cohesive group of energetic, generous, no-nonsense, transparent, dedicated, mischievous, skilled professional volunteers.

In 2017/18

We're going to MAKE A DIFFERENCE … targeting Youth

And we're going to ENJOY DOING IT.”
