President's report

Welcome back everyone - , it was good to see all your relaxed faces, all recharged for this year. And welcome to family members who attended.

* Last week was our New Year BBQ at the lake which offered a great fellowship opportunity.

* Following a lot of discussion, Doug sent a survey to members to review the club's meeting time, venue and menu options.

* Monday night we had our first cluster meeting to update the Rochester flood situation. Donations are still coming in and supplies sourced from DIK.

*Tuesday we held our Board meeting with many items being discussed.

- Doug presented the results of the survey:

74% voted to remain at the same time.

90% voted to change the venue to PepperGreen Farm.

84% voted to change the menu.

We thank him for his time researching this.

We will continue at the Tennis Centre until a review has been made with PepperGreen.

- Acting treasurer Peter, presented a detailed account of our finances and we thank him for his valuable support.

-Stew and Martin presented a paper for ESRAG (Environmental Sustainability Rotary Action Group), re A Mallacoota Endemic Garden to establish endangered plants.

Board agreed we would pay for a misting trough to grow seeds and cuttings.

- The Easter Family Day Monday market was not agreed upon and will not be supported by us.

-We have had two resignations from the club, Nick Christian and Karen Bosario.

* Can owing subs and uniforms be paid promptly please.

*If you have leave can you notify John Harkin for the roster please. And if unable to attend, please swap with other members.

* A very special welcome to our new member who was inducted on Wednesday, Madeline Schoo.

*A BBQ is on Saturday for Chinese Lunar New Year. "Cookers" only required, see Rob for roster.

*Our Cluster Event is on Saturday Feburary 4th, 11am-4pm at the Mechanics Hall in School St. This is a hands on event with the DG. It will be great to share with other clubs.

We are hoping to get 15-20 people attending. The link is added in the bulletin, and you just need to hover your phone camera over the QR code to register. (See below) If you have difficulty just contact me with the number of people participating.

President Judy inducted our newest member Madeline Schoo on Wednesday morning.

Madeline has a diverse working background and has also worked with Cubs and Scouts.

She is a very welcome addition to our club.

Buzzing with excitement

There was a real Buzz of excitement on Saturday Jan 14 when Beekeeper Rob presented his unique experience - From the Hive to the Plate.

This Bee-witching event was an auction item at last year's club fundraiser for the Rotary Foundation.

A large mob of Kev's grandkids enjoyed the day, along with some lucky grown-up bee-lovers.

Adults and kids alike were Bee-dazzled by the special magic show, but Rob assured us he was not Pollen our legs!

We also learned a lot about bees, and the creation and harvesting of honey.

Rob is considering doing another day in April. Attendees can make a donation to Rotary Foundation.

The following letter is from Roxanne Lyon Caregiver Services Worker at Anglicare Bendigo

Thank you to the Bendigo Sandhurst Rotary Club for the continued support of the Foster Care program.

Each year the Home Based Care team holds a Kids Christmas party for all the foster children, their carers and families. The aim is to celebrate and bring joy to the children we support, as well as the foster carers and their families. This is also a great opportunity for carers to meet other local carers and form connections with staff. We also invite Santa along to visit, who over the last few years has been one of our already dedicated foster carers!

This year the Bendigo Sandhurst Rotary Club provided huge support by providing, cooking and serving a sausage sizzle for tea. Rotary members, Rob, Barb, Cathie and Kevin volunteered their time to attend and provide our carers, children and staff with tea. The team added such a cheerful presence to the evening, always with a smile and laugh. Rob even impressed some of our staff with his jokes!

As Bendigo Sandhurst Rotary were able to donate the sausage sizzle, Anglicare Victoria were able to use the small allocated budget to cover the cost of the location, as well as ensure salads, ice creams and a small gift of a book was given to each child from Santa. The evening was attended by 85 people, including 29 foster children, across 19 carer households and 15 staff. It is only through community support and donations that we are able to pull together the fun experiences we do for the children and families we work with a couple of times a year.
