A big thanks to club member Doug Lougoon who gave us an interesting insight into the Lougoon family history which I think beautifully captures the unique relationship between Bendigo and its rich Chinese history.   His presentation spanned 2 countries, lots of relatives, some pearls of wisdom and the odd dragon.   It also highlighted that we don’t have to look far to find interesting guest speakers, our own members have great stories to tell.

With the clubs Strategic plan 2013-16 now at its end date it’s time to look forward and develop the new 3 year plan moving forward.  We have set aside Sunday Morning the 22nd May 2016 form 10am for a planning day to help develop the new plan.   This is an opportunity for all members to have a say in the future of the club, so please mark the date in your diary and keep it free – WE WANT YOU.   The venue is to be confirmed.

I had the pleasure to attend the Reclink Bendigo Victory Football Club home game in Wednesday and along with Bruce Fraser, Cathie Miller, Evelyn Lehman and Ray Carrington catered for the post-match BBQ.  It was a hard fought win to the Bendigo and the players and officials were very appreciative of the drink and sausage after the game.

We also agreed at the recent board meeting to donate another $1000 to the Bendigo Foodshare million meals campaign and I’m proud to say that with our support Foodshare was able to reach its target.

Congratulations and a big thanks to all members involved in this years ANZAC day dawn service.  A very professional job once again with hardly a queue to be seen and every sausage delivered with a coffee infused smile, well done everyone.

Don’t forget Groovin the Moo on Saturday night another event for the club and one where I think we have a very positive impact on making the dispersal area at the station a happy and safe one.

.

With the alternative formal/informal meetings there are a couple of changes that are also in place for this trial.   Attendance will not be recorded for the informal meetings, which is more in line with the focus on engagement rather than attendance.  Attendance will still be recorded for the formal meetings at TAFE.    We will also trial the fortnightly bulletin following each formal meeting.  In those few occasions when we may need to communicate more a separate email will be sent.  We continue to seek your feedback and ideas ofr improvement as we trial these changes.

This weeks meeting is  our 2nd casual coffee shop meeting,  Vahlands Café, TAFE Complex - Hargreaves st. I look forward to seeing you there.

Joke of the week

Bumper stickers 2016

Where there's a will...I want to be on it.

It's lonely at the top, but you eat better.

Don't drink and drive...You might hit a bump and spill it.

Friends help you move. Real friends help you move bodies.

Consciousness: That annoying time between naps.

Ever stop to think, and forget to start again?

Be nice to your kids...They will pick out your nursing home.

Always remember you're unique...Just like everyone else.

As long as there are tests, there will be prayer in public schools.

Eschew obfuscation.
