Congratulations to all the members for the fantastic work over the Easter period.
The market and BBQ teams worked extremely well and the feedback we have had so far has been quite positive. Thanks also to John Cannon for organising the information tent and Rob Plowman for manning it most of the day.
Today I had great pleasure in inducting Amy Read into the club. Amy will go into Youth Services with Martin Ruffell and Linda will be her mentor.
Amy’s induction is our first father/daughter team.
Amy has been in Rotaract and she has a background in Early Childhood Development.
I would encourage our members with children of a similar age to discuss joining Rotary. It would be great if this was a beginning trend for getting some younger energy into the club.
Today was a Club Forum.
Ray Carrington reminded everyone of the welcome dinner at John and Barbara Cannon’s place on Sat 18th. He is needs numbers of who is attending and what food they will be bringing.
Community Report:
Rob congratulated the teams involved in organising the Easter events. The final figures are still being collated, but it looks like we have raised a record amount for distribution this year.
He reminded everyone of the ANZAC Day BBQ. Kevin will need volunteer from 5 am to start the BBQ and the rest of the team from 5.30. He will send around rosters next week.
International Report:
Pattie has been busy getting the knitting packed into the container for Maubisse.
Wayne Gregson and Linda attended the RC Eaglehawk lunch where Daryl Mills spoke about his role as the liaison role in Dilli with the communities in East Timor and Rotary Clubs in our District.
Wayne gave some background to how long Daryl has been doing this volunteer role (since late 1990’s) and what his role entails. Many of the projects we have been involved in would have been much more difficult (if not impossible) without his involvement.
He also provided some insight into what happens to the knitting provided to the community and also some of the difficulties being faced by the teams doing projects in East Timor.
Youth Services:
2 students attended RYPEN recently. Martin will contact them to organise when they can come and speak to the club about their experiences.
Graeme Lynas updated the members on a suggested change to the proposal for the “Schoolies” event to Central Australia. It has been suggested that we change the target participants to Health Sciences/medical university students and run the event mid semester. This would be a combined Vocational/Youth Services project. He asked for feedback from the members.
The general consensus was to explore this option further.
Club :
Paul Henderson provided feedback on the Innovative Clubs project.
The result of the vote was 68% in favour of applying to be part of the project, so the application has been submitted.
We should have a response by the end of May.
There is a Board meeting on Monday night, so could all Directors get their reports and Board papers to Geoff by the end of the week.
