Kevin Reade has organized this years Rotary Weekend Away Barham Caravan Park

Caravan sites and onsite cabins available. Bookings 54532553 say you are with

RCOBS for the booking. This is always a great weekend.

Bookings are slowly coming in please ring to secure your place. (3 Cabins left. 18 families booked)

The club is trying a fellowship day for each month. It will be the last Thursday of each month with all sorts of activities to be explored.

It was a small group that gathered for our meeting this week with many possibly worn out after a big and successful Easter weekend. The markets are a major fundraiser for us and Evelyn, George, Ted and Rob supported by a cast of many did a terrific job ensuring the smooth operation of both the big Friday Market and the Sunday follow up. The only real problems where closing the site at the end of the day, stall holders were still doing business well past closing time such was the popularity of the event.

Thanks again to Kevin Reade, Bruce, Fraser and the band of merry barbecuers who once again ensured the crowd were feed and watered. although the BBQ was down a little on previous years there are now so many offerings of food in the market and surrounds for people to enjoy.

With our guest speaker unable to make it this week we heard from two of our own. Martin Ruffell gave us an update on the book he has been working on "Forbesy" which has now arrived from the press ready for the big launch on the 7th April a the Kangaroo Flat Sports Club. There will be some big starts of the sporting world including guest speaker Merv Hughes. Rotarians will be on hand on the 7th 6:45 to help with registrations and other duties as needed. Forbesy is generously offering 50% of profits from the sale of the book to Rotary.

Rob Rosaia then led a fun and impromptu discussion on being the consumer. He spoke of the changing focus over the years on the care of the animals in farming and the continued push towards free range and the associated difficulty in producing quantity, quality at a price. While the consumer often talks about the willingness to pay more for animal friendly product that often doesn't convert at the register. Ultimately conversation turned to Australian versus imported and the tricky labelling that makes it difficult for consumers to know what’s actually Australian oh and of course there was a mention or two of PORK and PIGS..

Next week’s meeting is at BRIT and is the full breakfast meeting. I will be holidaying with the family so once again you will have a special guest President for a club forum

Joke of the week

A man with tickets to the AFL Grand Final finds his seat and relaxes. As he sits down, a man comes down and asks if anyone is sitting in the seat next to him.

"No", he says. "The seat is empty."

"That's incredible", said the stranger. "Who in their right mind would have a seat like this for the AFL Grand Final and not use it?"

"Well, actually, the seat belongs to me. I was supposed to come with my wife, but she passed away. This is the first Grand Final we haven't been to together since we got married in 1967."

The stranger replies, "Oh...I'm sorry to hear that. That's terrible. Couldn't you find someone else - a friend or relative, or even a neighbour to take the seat?"

The man shakes his head. "No. They're all at the funeral."

There are rumours about a guy up in far north Queensland who regularly swims a crocodile infested river every day to earn a living from tourists.

He wears a T-shirt with a Collingwood logo and the words "Magpies for Premiers in 2016" on it.

When asked how he avoids being taken by a croc he replies "Not even a croc would swallow that!!"
