Thanks, to all the helpers on Sunday, for the BBQ at the Bendigo Sustainability Festive held at the Gardens for the Future. Final figures are not in yet but Bruce informs me that we had a good day out financially. Also if anyone has not being out to these gardens/venue very much worth a visit.

The Duke night to be held at the Bendigo Cinemas this Tuesday evening 5:30 pm, my understanding from Allie that there is approximately 100 from our cluster going. Well done to all also if anyone wants to go for Tea afterwards Allie has suggested Clogs will be the venue of choice.

We have the RECLINK on this Wednesday afternoon please see Bruce if you are able to help, I believe there will be around 100 odd players in attendance.

Denis Johanson, Strathfieldsaye & District Community Enterprises (S&DCE)

Denis has been a resident of Strathfieldsaye for the past thirty years, and is well known for his work as a legal practitioner. In the early 2000, Strathfieldsaye has no football club because there was no ground for them on which to play. They had identified a block of land where the grounds are currently situated, but they did not know how they were going to raise the funds to acquire this property. Bendigo Bank’s Community Enterprise initiative provided a spark to get this and many other projects underway. The challenge was to get 300 customers of Bendigo Bank to ‘tag their account to Strathfieldsaye Community Enterprises, as a result the Bank pays a ‘dividend’, 1.5% of the account balance to the community enterprise, this not only led to a contribution by the group of $100,000 to the oval, which was then supported by Council and State Government, but over the years the S&DCE has supported the bowls club, kindergarten and community shed. Current projects include the cycling/ walking track around St Francis Church. In collaboration with Fosterrville Mining they are also working on the local creeks to remove noxious vegetation and rejuvenate the water system; it is hoped that maybe platypus can return to these waterways.

Dennis knows how to hold a crowd.

A man stumbles up to the only other patron in a bar and asks if he could buy him a drink.

“Why of course”, comes the reply.

The first man then asks: “Where are you from?”

“I’m from Scotland”, replies the second man.

The first man responds: “You don’t say, I’m from Scotland too! Let’s have another round to Scotland.”

“Of Course”, replies the second man.

Curious, the first man then asks: “Where in Scotland are you from?”

“Aberdeen”, comes the reply.

“I can’t believe it”, says the first man. “I’m from Aberdeen too! Let’s have another drink to Aberdeen.”

“Of course”, replies the second man.

Curiosity again strikes and the first man asks: “What school did you go to?”

“Saint Andrews”, replies the second man. “I graduated in ’62.”

“This is unbelievable!”, the first man says. “I went to Saint Andrew’s and graduated in ’62, too!”

About that time in comes one of the regulars and sits down at the bar.

“What’s been going on?”, he asks the bartender

“Nothing much,” replies the bartender. “The MacClyde twins are drunk again.”
