MEETING NEWS

What a Blast !!!

The Bendigo South East College Band and Chorus in

The Mall this morning, for Ride To Work Day

Do see the video at

https://www.facebook.com/BendigoSandhurst/?fref=ts

Future Rotarians [We Hope] Chorus Line set the beat

for the morning:

We missed Adrian Schoo, our club cyclist ..

in bed with the ‘flu.

News tidbits:

Our Team 48 arrives home Monday, from Maulau,

Maubisse and Dili Timor-Leste … into Tulla at 11:30

Monday night. “Coach Captain” Waters has volunteered

to drive the bus.

Martin Ruffell captured two little Timorese men

Watching  Team 48 repair the roof on their school.

The boy in yellow shorts is holding a standard Timorese toy ..

a flattened plastic bottle which he will use to push along

an old motorbike tyre.

Kevin Reade is phoning today to lock in our Fellowship Weekend

at Barham, most probably weekend of April 28 – 30 2017.

Ray and George are to meet the [new] CEO of Radius Disability Services,

next Wednesday towards a MOU re the proposed wool

[and wiring & electronic boards] baler purchase.

Paul and George to have another tête a tête next week

to kick around ideas, preparing for our board

meeting October 24th.

George is off to PETS [Now PELTS .. President Elect

Learning and Training Seminar] all day Sunday.

If you’ve read A BURNING QUESTION in October RDU,

you’d be frightened off taking on the PE role forever.

Nevertheless, PE George and Graeme [Retirees Inc]

agreed to meet to formulate an innovative funding

theme for our board.

Apart from the formal, annual, public “suggested” donation

to The Rotary Foundation, [TRF], we do make “silent”

donations towards the six TRF Areas of Focus:

·    PEACE AND CONFLICT PREVENTION/RESOLUTION

·    DISEASE PREVENTION AND TREATMENT

·    WATER AND SANITATION

·    MATERNAL AND CHILD HEALTH

·    BASIC EDUCATION AND LITERACY

·    ECONOMIC AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT.

A “silent” donation towards TRF Areas of Focus example

is our Team 48 self-funding their travel and personal

expenses in Timor-Leste.

Our next “silent” donation is us all dressing up and

attending the Dinner at Silks, Bendigo Racecourse,

November 23rd.

In its centennial year, this Cluster Foundation Dinner

will be one to remember.

We need to ask our “Club Foundation Director”

Brian Hinneberg, to coordinate the $45.00 per

person into the nominated Bendigo South Cluster Account.

Martin Ruffell, and his deputy Glenn Maloney seek

volunteers for the Swap meet cluster clubs’ event:

Nov 12 – 13

Eaglehawk Trivia Night is on at the Showgrounds

this Friday evening:  First prize in the $2 raffle

is a watercolour painting, by Terry Jarvis, valued at $750.

October 24 is World Polio Day

A wee true Polio story:

George, walking Schnauzer Bailey the other morning,

spied a garage sale sign and wandered in … Young lady

in a wheelchair … “Why” .. “Polio” .. contracted in China

before her sojourn in Indonesia and now Resident of Bendigo.

“Do you know anybody else post-polio ?
“No”

Her email address later, and she’s en route to contact

the lady chair of Post Polio Victoria, who happened to

speak to Woodend RC recently, which Grant Hocking

just happened to mention at RLI Training last week.
